Potential team, just to gauge reaction if we would be happy with this! Not just starters but the bench Reina Kelly Carra Agger Robinson Lucas Kuyt Gerrard Sterling Carroll Suarez Gulacsi Flanagan Aurellio New CB New LW Pacheco Suso Point being do we really need to spend big? I don't think Sterling will start and would prefer a quality player brought in but one that can play both wings. Same for CB as Carra can't go on forever but will be great to have on the bench for a while yet. Could do with cover for Lucas too and I don't know of a reserve player who could do that job. And we have other playes to consider Spearing Cole Skrtel.
GK: Reina LB: Robinson CB: Agger CB: Kelly RB: Johnson DM: Lucas LW: Bale CM: Gerrard RW: Sanchez SS: Suarez CF: Carroll I owuld do subs but i'm about to leave work for the day, i'll edit/come back to this later
Don't think we'd have a chance in hell of signing Bale! Serious need for wingers though (for the past 15 years!)
I did post this a bit quick and have left out Mereiles who will also play a big part but that just makes the point more valid!
I think Kuyt will still play a big part and would like Sterling to be given a go so just sign 1 winger who can play both wings so that he can play instead of Kuyt or Sterling.
I'm not so sure! I agree on the departures as there is plenty of dead wood to get rid off but think there is also plenty of quality in the reserves and u18's that could take the place of the departures. We need to buy but I'd rather 2 big players than 6 maybes lets give those maybe places to the kids.
I'd either ship Johnson out or put him on the right wing. To come in though, I think we need a LB (aurelio will be going i think), LW, CB and somebody in the centre (maybe a DM or a AM) to bolster it in there. Outgoing I expect: Poulsen, Jovanovic, probably Maxi, and all of those on loan (Degen, Aquilani, Insua) So 6 out, 4 in. And maybe 1 or 2 youngsters coming into the Academy.
You forgot Konchesky and Soto,I reckon both are gone, theres a chance Joe Cole could be on his way too.
Is el zhar still ours too? I expect he'll be gone. You make a good point, there's a lot more than I thought who need shipping out. Most can be replaced by youngsters coming through though. Cole > Pacheco Konchesky > Robinson Degen > Flanaghan Aquilani > Suso But obviously we need to buy 2 or 3 to go straight into the first 11.
really disagree with people who say we need out and out wingers the way we are set up just doesnt need them. keeper Johnson-Kelly-Agger-Insua/new left back -Lucas-Gerard- -kuyt-Raul-Suarez- -Carrol- With a bench made up of youngsters I also feel it would be hugely beneficial to play the Carling cup and earlier rounds of the FA cup with a young squad. It would also be great to Finnish 5th and get some Europa football for the same reason. Also would like to through it out there that Lucas would make a great captain for those games!
I think we need some wingers just so we have the option of using them. Obviously what formation/style we have right now works against some teams, but there are those games (against lower table sides) where we don't seem to create much, so having wingers pumping crosses into the box means we might nick a goal or two.
Not a chance in hell of you signing Bale, why would he want to leave a Champions League team for a Europa team? Also, as you probably know by now, theres more to Carroll's game than just being good in the air, hes great on the ground aswell but having said that he was amazing for us when he was getting on the end of Bartons balls into the box, two top class wingers either side of him could put you in real contention to push up the league IMO. Especially with Suarez doing all the leg work.
Their not a champions league side though are they. One swallow doesn't make a summer. They are also currently in the Europa League places, their recent history doesn't have the champions league pedigree like Liverpool's does, they need to make some big money signings while at the same time keeping a lowe net spend if they want to compete and I firmly believe that Liverpool have the funds to make a bid, stranger things have happened
The appeal of Liverpool Football Club still stands for many, go anywhere in the world and you'll see as many Liverpool shirts as United's. They are the two most recognised English teams in the world, and as such have massive appeal to players. In January i would have said Reina will be on his way in the summer, i think having seen the intent from the owners, the passion Dalglish brings to the job he'll stay. I also believe at least one signing will make people sit up and take notice, that NESV and Liverpool FC mean real business next season.
id like to see us buy seydou doumbia, shinji kagawa or keisuke honda, alex chamberlain, paco alcacer, romelu lukaku or khouma babacar, juan manuel mata and maybe defour
