In an attempt to refocus away from the fallout from last Sunday, I have been pondering what would be my choice of team for the Burton match. That usual plan is to give playing time to the fringe and reserve team players, but with the intention of getting a positive result. I would revert to a classical 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2 formation, and give our unused players a run out as well as more match practice for our new unfit new stars, and propose something as below: 4-2-3-1 formation: ------------------ MURPHY---------------------- --SIMPSON ---ONOUHA----HILL------YUN------ ------------HENRY --------FER------------------- ----SWP ----------MUTCH---------HOILLET--- -------------------VARGAS------------------- 4-4-2 formation: ------------------ MURPHY---------------------- --SIMPSON ---ONOUHA----HILL------YUN---- ----SWP -------HENRY -----FER---- HOILLET-- -----------VARGAS-----A.N. OTHER?----------- Of course there is an opportunity to use the junor team players and I am sure there could be many possible permutations. Any thoughts?
Must play Remy. He could get a knock and we could tell the press that he will be out for at least 4 months, then after next week he could suddenly get better. "It wasn't as bad as we thought and he'll play in a week or so."
I'd play the old back 4 and give Simpson, Ned, Hill, Yun a run out and save Rio I'd also have Isla right mid to settle him in Then play a strong midfield/ frontline and tell them to score a goal and win a game
As 20 people will mention Harrys said "unfortunately we have a game Wednesday" which means this won't happen I know we would all moan if Faurlin or someone gets injured in it for the season but it is clearly time for a more strenuous practice match and there is an international break coming I believe
If he intends to stick to the 3 at the back he should also play it here. Poor Vargas, watching the Spuds game then first game for us against Burton. Wonder if he has brought the plane tickets already.
Knowing Harry, it will be HILL IN GOAL SWP-HOILETT-AUSTIN-REMY MURPHY-GREEN-DUNNE-ZAMORA SIMPSON-YUN Apologies, but I have lost him with him after sitting thro that on Sunday.
I think Arry should play what he thinks is the best team he can put out, in the formation he wants, and use this game to practice playing together in his system. For me it would be something like this (I am assuming Austin is still unfit and OBZ can do a 90) but doubtless Arry won't. ------------------ GREEN---------------------- --ISLA ---ONOUHA----CAULKER------TRAORE------ ------------BARTON --------ALE------------------- ----REMY ----------ADEL---------VARGAS--- -------------------OBZ-------------------
I see they are unbeaten yet in their league. Just what we need. Opposition brimming with confidence. I'm still hopeful we will win comfortably.
This. We need to build up some confidence. I would definitely play all of the newcomers (maybe rest Ferdie) with the message that they play on Saturday if they impress.
If, as is likely, Harry is going to persist with 3-5-2, all the players should play that system at every opportunity. Also, we need the entire squad, as far as possible, to be match fit. Therefore, we must rest some of the old legs (lags?) and play some of those who haven't trained or featured much. I'd go with something like: Murphy Isla - Caulker - Hill - Onuoha - Yun Phillips - Henry - Fer Vargas Hoilett Isla and Fer need game time to get fit. Onuoha needs practice at playing on the left side of the back 3. Vargas needs an early intro to UK football. Phillips will come good - he was just getting there when he got injured last season - but he needs game time to do so. Hoilett may have to do a job for us this season, from time to time, as one of the front two so he needs to work on that as much as possible. I'm assuming Adel is so unfit he can't even play in this match.
Cuptie Remy.....None of the big teams would want him if he was Capital One Cup-tied would they (feel there is a flaw in this arguement....but not quite sure where???)
Based on the discussion above and last nights' result at MK Dons I have clarified my thoughts and would: - continue to practice and develop the 3-5-2 system - play a reasonably strong team with the objective of winning and go along with Rodney's line of thinking. Let's see what team will actually be chosen and what develops!
Murphy Harriman Hill Onouha Yun Isla Fer Henry Hoilett Margas Zamora This gives a sensible blend of those that need to get fit/game time + a chance of actually winning a game and the confidence that goes with it.
This was the team that Harry finally selected and it seems a bit random: QPR: Murphy, Simpson, Hill, Phillips, SWP, Onuoha, Faurlin, Henry, Dunne, Hoilett, Taarabt. Subs: Green, Fer, Mutch, Zamora, Ehmer, Doughty, Harriman I don't really know what was the formation was as I don't know many without a striker, however we all know the result. Below is a tweet from Harry on the official QPR site: QPR FC @QPRFC Redknapp: "I gave players a chance tonight to show me what they could do - but they showed me what they couldn't do." #BURvQPR It is a pity that Faurlin, Onuoha, Hoillet and Simpson could be stigmatised by this pantomine. It really seems a bit of a set up. Of all these players, I would have rested Faurlin yesterday and put him his name as one of the first for the team for Saturday's match against Sunderland. It just shows how little I know about football.
It is a Harry quotation on our @OFFICIALQPR so most probably done by the press team. I don't think Harry uses social media and according to his book does not seem to fond of writing. He prefers the ad-hoc interview from the open car window.
