I see that there is fair amount of frustration being posted regarding Ollie which is understandable, but rather futile. Perhaps we could turn this negative R’s energy in something more positive?

What team would you recommend for Ollie to choose?

My criteria for the teams selction are:

    · play our best available players as close to their best positons

    · have a robust defence and try to keep a clean sheet

    · play with width and pace

    · have a large target man up front

As a result, I would choose a 4-2-3-1 formation which should be 4-3-3 in attack. I only have a dilemma with a right back and hope that Robinson could performance a reasonable job there. But this could be wishful thinking. :)

    -----------------------Smithies----------------------

    ----Robinson---Onuoha---Hall----Bidwell-----

    ---------------Luongo-------Scowen-------------

    --Wszolek---------Freeman-------Chair(or Manning)

    ------------------Smith (or Sylla)----------------

I look forward to reading your innovative and inspiring ideas. :)

No sure Hall is ready yet but Nedum put in a good display I saw

Hopefully we prevent a loss against the Blues. I would take a point now if that was possible but it’s not

No idea how Birmingham are playing but they have to go for it. A bad performance is not what we want at the moment so I expect us to set up to contain what maybe a lot of pressure. Smith is a real handful but maybe after 65mins onwards if we can hold onto the game at level pegging

0-0 for me with the hope of nicking it at the end. These players won’t yield that easily

    Build from there

If we don't have a fit Hall, then I believe we will stick to three at the back three.

In that case, I would plumb for something like this:

    --------------------Smithies----------------------

    ------Onuoha---Robinson----Bidwell-----

    --Wszolek-----------------------Chair(or Manning)

    -------Luongo----Freeman----Scowen---------

    -------------Striker #1 ---Striker #2 --------

For the strikers we could play any combination of our profilic goal scorers, e.g. Smith and Sylla (ie two big guys). But, I would be tempted to play a big and smaller guy combinaton, e.g Wheeler & Sylla (1st half) then progressively change to Smith & Washington (2nd half)

Go for it Ollie from the start in 3 5 2. Brum are near the bottom of the League.

    Smithies
    Ned Baptiste Robinson
    Pawel Luongo Scowen Freeman Samuel
    Sylla Smith

    Or if he's given up 3 5 2 and wants another defender 4 5 1

    Smithies
    Ned Baptist Robinson Bidwell
    Pawel Luongo Scowen Freeman Samuel
    Sylla

I'm guessing Furlong is still out and Hall not 100%.

    I forgot about Baptiste!

Wow! We have an abundence of Central defenders.

Oslo - yes, we do have various options.

    I
Agree when all fit we have a very reasonable back six that includes the best keeper in this league. Just hope we steer clear on anymore injuries so Holloway doesn’t have to pick the team

Both Jake and Pavel imo are excellent wide players in this set up

Ok we don’t always get behind what many think is the answer but we have the tools to win football matches imo

Motivated and with an excellent midfield we can make the chances ... need cooler heads to finish that’s all

Set pieces we are strong and are certainly not looking like conceding set pieces against us.

Goals is the current problem other than that I like the way we stop the majority of sides playing their game.

Not a great footie tactician but with the quality of strikers we have, playing one up front does not work.
I would go with Smith and Washington up front.

I don't mind your lineup at all except I would definitely start with Sylla rather than Smith and I would swap swap Onuoha and Robinson around.

Do you think Smith and Wheeler would work?

Has that duo ever started? When we signed Smith I hoped he was going to be the hold up / lay off man as Bobby was. He's not quite but then none of the others are Charlie Austin sadly.

Might be worth a go but then Olly would be accused of tinkering. Who'd be a football manager?!

I personally would get back to basics with a 4-4-2
    Scowen and Luongo central midfield
Freeman and pawel on the wings. Sylla and washington up top.
Defence for this Saturday onohua right Baptiste and Robinson centre and reluctantly Bidwell on the left. I say reluctantly because I have seen better Sunday league players than him. Always got a booking in him.

Olly is not clever enough to try all these different formations nor do we have the personel to do so. 3 at the back always ends up as a 5 making it harder to keep possesson further forward. I'm a firm believer that if you play 3 at the back then you can play 2 natural wingers as wingers by utilising 2 defensive midfielders to cover defenders when stretched.

I am not sure if they have played together.

I believe Wheeler has potential and think the big and smaller attacker up front may be effective.

I also think that Wheeler may be more effective than either Mackie or Washington for such a role.

As for tinkering, on a forum is too easily, and who wants to be a Football Manager!

Write all the names on a piece of paper and let the first 11 names out of the hat play. As good as any at the moment.

Makes sense to go 442 with maybe Washington dropping off Sylla so it becomes 4411, but whatever it is, please, please, please win the fecking game.....
