They should be the starting 11 for Saturday's match .... playing with a bit of passion .... could do with a striker in the team though
So near yet so far as they say. I have been trying to follow this on the Beeb website and the bleddy thing kept going back to 99 minutes and refused to update. Despite all our misgivings and the fact we are out of it again, you can't fault the team tonight who clearly gave it a good go. But we still lost. I have to say they did seem to do better when Chadwick went off although I didn't listen to any commentary. Given that Burnley are 2 leagues above us that isn't the worst result we could have had.
I listened to the commentary and epecially the 2nd half and during the extra time Argyle gave their all .... hopefully this marks the start of a successful season for us unless Fletcher changes the starting 11 again !
Very disappointing to lose on penalties, although better than the horrific penalty drubbing that we got at Exeter last year. Difficult to judge how good this performance is, Burnley who are 18th in the Championship fielded 10 reserves,Austin being the only regular first team player, they did have 7 regular first team players on the bench. With Purse and Wotton both out injured you feared for the defence.in the end only first teamer Austin scored so they must of done ok. The top two leagues seem to use this competition as a reserve outing, which I think devalues the competition and shows a lack of respect for the Cups sponsers. With only 4119 spectators showing up,about 150 from Argyle,Burnley shut one end of the ground, that must kill the atmosphere a little...one report said that the first 20 mins seemed more like a pre-season friendly. I don't know what defence Fletcher will have available for Saturdays Northampton match.....Argyle need to get something out of that.....losing can become an habit.
Let's not forget we had 5 changes from Saturday too with Nelson, Young & Sims starting and Lecointe used as a substitute. Let's hope what sounded like a decent performance from half time onwards acts as inspiration and we can get a first league win on Saturday. Perhaps that will start a bandwagon...
I think MacDonald saw our squad and thought "Hmmmm! I could play every week there with this lot". At least it wasn't a top 4 draw which would have been a crime if it had been.
