Right lads and lasses lets talk about what team, formation and tactics we expect on Sunday.

I have to say I have no idea how we are going to line up

Me neither but might be a good time to play them what with them having played 4 games in 9 days.

I just hope we have a go instead of sitting in our own half.

Not sure how many are going down to the Bridge but it would be nice to see some Italian/Lazio flags in the away end to show PDC we are right behind him.

There is a game on? Forza Sunderland. Can't see us going two up top, which is how Swindon fans have said Paolo usually had them playing.

Rather than actual tactics, I agree that right now Paolos enthusiams and determinism being relfected by the players is perhaps more important. I hope the past few days have united the players half as much as it has us fans.

    Bardsley -- O'Shea -- Mangane -- Rose

    Larsson -- Gardner --- N'Daiye -- Sess

    ---------- Wickham --Graham--------

Johnson perhaps for larsson, would like to gardner back in CM again

    Would love to see mangane.

I think you have to look at Chelsea's team to see how we are going to set up,

Cole is going to be out so Bertrand left-back (Young lad who looks a good prospect but lets get at him, play Sess/Johnson on that side)

Mata & Hazard will play tonight and analyzing Rafa's style so far he will then drop these 2 and play Moses/Marin against us (Very inconsistant players that can go missing so get at them)

My only worry is conceding 1 goal as we probably wouldnt score an equalizer so heres hoping for a 0-0.

It's going to be interesting. Will Paolo see any good in Wickham. Who will play there. Will we be defensive. Can he really change that much in such a short space of time. At the end of the day it's the same shower of ****e playing. Hopefully he can get them playing and give them son ideas on how to attack.

His work rate is good but, it's end product we need unfortunately he doesn't give us that any more, maybe PDC can get him playing again.
As for tactics get at them don't let them settle and man mark Mata.
If we can get anything from this one I'll be happy and surprised.

Althought everyone thinks PDC will go 4-4-2 against Chelski, I think he won't. We have to be compact against these and playing 4-4-2 will leave massive gaps. I'm not saying play the O'Neill way (play not to lose) but I think with Mata and Co if we play 4-4-2 they will pick us apart and we will concede early.

Keep it tight shut up shop and frustarte the hell out them. With us being so poor of late they will think we are easy pickings, the crowd will get cheesed off and they'll start to rush and fail. I'm going for a 2 - 1 win and Rafa getting the sack late on Sunday night.

    Viva Di Canio....

well, when we are attacking, we will be playing 4-2-4. from what PDC is saying, that might be all the time....

I played attacking football at Swindon because in my view it is clear that – regardless of whether you want to stay up or whether you want to win the league – you have to score a goal,” he said.

“So here at Sunderland, we have to score goals.

“We can’t look to defend and just HOPE that we score a goal, score the one goal, and then defend all game.”

Di Canio has spent this week at the Academy of Light looking at how best he might get the most out of the squad he has inherited.

Leading goalscorer Steven Fletcher won’t play any further part this season after the ankle injury he picked up on international duty, but the Italian can still call upon Danny Graham, Connor Wickham, Stephane Sessegnon, Adam Johnson and James McClean for creativity and goals.

For the moment, Di Canio is considering making the best use of his wide men by trying to get them further upfield in open play.

“I probably won’t change the formation so much here at the moment because they know the system they are playing,” he said.

“We have very good wingers and we do have a mix of strikers – obviously not all of them because we have injuries – but I do have options to mix things around.

“I will play 4-2-4 when we have possession and I will look to change the mechanics of the side because we do need to improve our attacking options in order to damage our opponents.”
