Does anybody else think with hindsight we’d have been better off keeping Taylor and sending Semenyo out on loan ?, with all due respect to the lad Semenyo isn’t up to Championship standard and would gain more from playing at a level he’d be able to compete at, also Taylor would bring much more to the table in the Championship and may have even benefited from getting game time, albeit as a result of injuries.
Semenyo is as Loathsneyd says our homegrown player. We could of taken a chance with keeping Taylor and one of the keepers but that itself based on last season can be risky. Taylor was hardly prolific and at the time we had Afobe, Diedhiou and Weinman along with a few others that could step up. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, do you think getting rid of Pack was risky? At this time it looks that way but at the time it was good business.
Pack wanted to go, I imagine he’s on much better money as they have parachute payments, also Nagy is much more mobile and forward thinking that Pack , I think , even now, it was the right thing to do for both parties. We could however have kept the other young lad in midfield , we’ll 23, I think , can’t think of his name at the moment , he would have been the homegrown player also, and even possibly Walsh as backup, although he’s probably better off getting game time. I accept it’s easy in hindsight, but just think Semenyo is nowhere near championship standard and that isn’t down to hindsight LJ should have known that at the time.
That’s the one, wouldn’t he have counted as an own grown player and would have offered much more than Semenyo , even without injuries he could have been given game time, whenever I’ve seen him he seems decent , as I Said Semenyo doesn’t , not yet anyhow , he may have lots of potential and show well in training, We don’t know because we don’t see training, but match days he’s been poor and I worry to keep playing him at a level he clearly isn’t ready for isn’t going to help his development, and may well hinder him.
He can’t be any worse than Semenyo , at Least Taylor was a pain in the arse when he came on , he did impact the game , Semenyo just gets bypassed .
Both Taylor and Mo are currently playing at the level they will do well - League1!! Neither have them would help fill the goalscoring void we currently have, based on their time with us. I will, and, have often admitted that Taylor is good at making runs that pull defenders and make space, but we lack the guy in the middle, not the guy to make those runs, as Weimann does that better, and Taylor was really quite poor with his finishing when played centrally.
I agree but Semenyo isn’t even at that level yet , either of those two , but particularly Taylor would be better than what we presently have.
I agree but we know the level of Taylor.....Semenyo is young and will only improve......he's still learning as is Messengo.......I feel the best is yet to come from them....Taylor won't get any better.....
I don’t think the championship is the best place for him to learn at the moment, he would be better served playing at a level that would allow him to grow and develop like Morrell, Walsh and many other players we have out on loan, he isn’t good enough to play in the championship at the moment.
Two ways of looking at it though....now I think if we were in a relegation battle, I would agree with you....but for me, if you are playing with much better players, this would be a better learning curve than playing along with players at the same level...
