Here is a list of the top 25 League 2 top scorers for this season: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/league-two/top-scorers Taylor is now currently the leagues top scorer He is averaging a goal every 119 minutes at the moment. Thats the best out of the 25. He has apparently hit the target 65% of his shots! Thats the 3rd best out of the 25. He has scored 10 goals in his last 8 games! He has scored 2 hat tricks as well. I want to say all the above stats could have been so much better as he has missed so many decent chances and sitters. But I wont mention that Instead, I will say that I have been very critical of him this season but I will give him a ton of credit here. 24 goals in his 1st ever season in the football league has proved me wrong and im sure many others too. Whats even more impressive about Taylors stats for this season, Taylor has had 2 poor dry spells where he really struggled. He only scored 1 in his 1st 9 league games of this season and he had an 11 league game spell from mid December to the end of February where he scored just 1. So thats 2 league goals in 20 games when he was struggling. From the other 20 league games, he has scored 22!!! Looking at the amount of goals that our other strikers have contributed to the cause of getting us promoted, we must keep Taylor injury free. Maybe as important as Lockyer is right now! Just a side note: He has scored 45 goals in all competitions in under 2 years with us I have to concede and give full credit where it is due. Well done Matty. Now really impress me and keep this form going.
CJS I have always been a fan of Taylors and the above stats make impressive reading, but the one stat missing is his work rate he gets through a massive amount of work for the team whilst still scoring a considerable number of goals
He is an amazing player for us who offers much more than just goals. For a League Two player his level football intelligence continues to overwhelm me. Yes he has missed chances during his Rovers career but that is the case for lots of successful strikers. Look at Harry Kane as an example. When he first played for Tottenham he needed so many great chances to score. Now he is a very good all-round player - one of my favourite players since I first began watching Rovers.
I would love to see all the stats on him like passing percentage, chances created, distance ran, free kick/pens/corners won, tackles and interceptions made. But I dont know where to find that! He has though been credited for 5 assists meaning he has been directly involved in 29 league goals this season. We have scored 64 league goals meaning 45% of our goals is down to Taylor either scoring them or assisting them.
Taylor up for Player of the month! please log in to view this image Jake Carroll (Hartlepool United) The Irishman was part of a defence which kept four clean sheets to end March. His positional sense and confident play in possession saw him go forward to impressive effect with a headed goal against Dagenham & Redbridge and two assists. John-Joe O’Toole (Northampton Town) March featured four goals from the dynamic midfielder. Having begun the season on the transfer list, O’Toole has returned to the fold to become a vital cog in Northampton’s promotion charge. He controls the midfield and is a threat going forward. Kemar Roofe (Oxford United) Difficult to categorise positionally and even harder to mark, the 23-year-old played just behind the main striker in March and caused havoc across the front line with his pace and trickery. He notched an assist and five goals, including a first career hat-trick, against Dagenham & Redbridge. Matty Taylor (Bristol Rovers) This is a third nomination this season for the striker who was in irresistible form with eight goals in seven games during March. His movement and ability to score all types of goals was illustrated by his perfect hat-trick in the 4-1 victory over Hartlepool United. The winner will be announced on Friday. http://www.football-league.co.uk/ne...ations-march-3042143.aspx#wrcWt2XtF17FjoYo.99
He's done a fantastic job. Last season only one League Two player notched twenty goals. Matty could even get to thirty at this rate. His all round play is excellent and he sets up a lot of chances and generally makes things happen. Still can't believe we may lose him for no fee.... I hope the rumours are wrong and he stays on for another season or two. But you couldn't blame him for wanting to have a crack at a new challenge.
Article about Taylor in Evil Post http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/BRISTO...ssham-Street/story-29055976-detail/story.html
Reading that article suggests that Matty Taylor hasn't signed for Hearts or anybody else, so lets hope that promotion can be secured so that we have a chance of retaining his services next season and beyond
I just checked how many points Taylor have won us this season. Basically, take away his goals and check if the result would have been different. Morecambe away. Won 4-3. Would have drawn 3-3. Lost 2 points. Mansfield away. Won 2-1. Would have drawn 1-1. Lost 2 points. Cambridge away. Won 2-1. Would have drawn 1-1. Lost 2 points. Carlisle home. Won 2-0. Would have drawn 0-0. Lost 2 points. Wycombe home. Won 3-0. Would have drawn 0-0. Lost 2 points. York home. Won 2-1. Would have drawn 1-1. Lost 2 points. Oxford away. Won 2-1. Would have drawn 1-1. Lost 2 points. Hartlepool home. Won 4-1. Would have drawn 1-1. Lost 2 points. Mansfield home. Won 1-0. Would have drawn 0-0. Lost 2 points. All other games, result wouldnt have changed. For example, we beat Crawley 3-0. Taylor got 2. Take them away, we still won 1-0. So no change. Counting the points we would have lost is 18. Meaning his goals alone, he has won 18 points on his own!
I don't know where the rumour came from. Someone "in the know" said it was done and dusted, but you would have expected some newsprint about it. I really hope we can hang on to him for at least next season because he's really important to our success.

Taylor was in irresistible form in March with eight goals in seven games. His movement and ability to score all types of goals was illustrated by his perfect hat-trick in the 4-1 victory over Hartlepool United. Bristol Rovers manager Darrell Clarke said: “I am not surprised at how well Matty has performed in his first season in The Football League and for him to score 25 goals with six games to go is an unbelievable achievement. I first saw him play when I was manager of Salisbury and made it a priority to sign him for Bristol Rovers when I became manager. His game isn't just about his goals; his work rate and ability to bring his team mates into play and his understanding of the game is outstanding and I am so pleased that his ability has been recognised.” Taylor said: “I am really delighted to have won this award, but I wouldn't have won it without the help of my team-mates. We enjoyed an amazing run in March, winning six of the seven games we played and everyone is enjoying their football and working with one another to ensure we finish the season on a high.” Sky Sports’ Football League pundit Don Goodman said: “Matty Taylor starred for Bristol Rovers in March with eight goals. He is now the leading goalscorer in English professional football, a superb achievement. Taylor is admirably focusing on his future at Bristol Rovers and getting them promoted, rather than looking elsewhere.” http://www.football-league.co.uk/ne...of-the-month-3047470.aspx#koCxhmYJzbpH5VmU.99
I know he's not going to come out and say I'm off lads but he didn't sound as if he was planning to leave
