A 25% win rate now as Charlton manager in the third tier, but it’s not just the results, as bad as they are. The tactics, the formation, the style of “football” all point to a manager who is shot to pieces, confused, and well out of his depth. We are not playing high tempo, pressing football either - two of their goals tonight were down to sheer laziness and a lack of closing and running - the opposite of what Jones promised. Beating your chest and being passionate only gets you so far - results and more importantly performances speak for themselves.
I don't feel his position is untenable.....yet. But recent performances feel like the last days of a managerial stint. And we should know after all the managers we get through. The changes against Blackpool feel like a turning point for me.
All he ever talks about is running and being overrun and work rate and closing down ..when have you ever heard him talk about actually playing some football ? It’s bizarre.
We sacked the last 2 managers just after transfer windows so the precedent is there. Adkins Jacko Holden Appleton now Jones- every new manager gets new the bounce at first then gets sacked when form dips. We're damned if we do, damned if we don't sack him.. it sounds as if he's winging it so I'm hoping he stumbles on something that works. Although if we continue to slide down the table he will go.
Jones still has time to turn things around, but he’s over rated, and he’s not helping himself. The one decent part of our team was defence, and he needlessly spoiled it by dropped Mitchell. He clearly doesn’t know his best starting 11 (so many changes , so much tinkering) and his constant references to “getting in their faces” and “over running” opponents is nonsense. He looks lost IMO, and we have a difficult run of fixtures in October. If we are 10 points plus away from the play off positions after October, serious questions about his future should be asked. Or are we wasting yet another season ?
I saw a video during pre-season where we could watch NJ take on a training session. I knew then we were screwed, going nowhere, neither up nor down, just dangling in the middle of nowhere. He seriously doesn’t know what he’s doing or talking about. He got out of jail last night with 2 consolation goals but in truth we were utter gash against a desperately poor team. Apparently the team selection was wrong and he takes responsibility but that suggests other team selections were right! Really!!
Same as he said after the Blackpool game. Which was similar, horrible first half too little too late second half. The players must be losing faith in his judgement if they haven't done so already.
I don’t think we will get any points from the next four games. The pressure is mounting on Jones and looking at that interview he doesn’t seem to know how to stop the slide. He should be knowing his best side by now. Curbs used to say get back to basics but we are so basic we have nowhere to go.
15 games to me is a barometer to a season. Fans were creaming themselves after the Derby away game last season and the results keeping us up. Jones needs to be given a full season at least. As an aside, I think he's got his hands tied with the money available for player recruitment.
If Jones is kept on and there is no improvement, the investors have done another £8,000,000 in running costs, minimum. Do you think they will be up for repeating that in 25/26 ? I don’t.
I think they need to put their hands in their pockets and try to stop doing things on the cheap. Until that changes we'll continue struggling in the third division.
I guess paying Jones off won’t help the bank balance. I repeat a previous sentiment- hopefully Cardiff will take him off our hands
Friedman & Co are foreign investors, not Charlton fans. Methven sold them a pup - namely a quick promotion at minimum cost, and then a flip and a tidy profit. I’d love to be a fly on the wall when slippery CM has to explain to them it’s all gone pear shaped, and he needs a lot more of their money.
