Tattersalls October Sale – Book One, 8-10 October

The highlight of the European sales season and always my favourite sale to summarise! With the yearling sales so far this year holding up very strongly there are rumours that fireworks could be seen at Tattersalls this year.

There are 513 yearlings on offer in Book 1 this year, with no select days, ensuring that the quality is spread through the sale.

Ashbrittle have done well very quickly. Talent this year, with a colt foal to sell next year and then they have lot 75 (Harbinger's full brother) today.
I should think 253 will have people interested.

For today 67, 75 and 90 to all be big hitters.

Lot 1 sells for 600,000 - a good start!

 

Ross Doyle, standing with Richard Hannon, signed the ticket for Lot 1.

 

400,000 for the Sea The Stars half brother to Motivator.

 

John Magnier goes to 3.6million for a Galileo brother to Secret Gesture.

 

20 mins till day 2 kicks off with the sibling to THE FUGUE expected through the ring in the first hour or so.

 

Shadwell went to 1,100,000 for the full brother to ARCANO.

The half-brother to THE FUGUE is currently in the ring.

 

The FUGUE sibling makes 290,000 sold to agent Hugo Merry.

The following lot, a Galileo half-sister to ZOFFANY sells to John Clarke (bloodstock manager for the Tsui family amongst others) for 600,000.

 

The record has been smashed again!

Mandore International go to 5,000,000 lot 253 the full-sister to WAS.

 

Tattersalls will have earned commission of £300,000 on the sale of the 5,000,000 filly. As they charge a commission of 5% plus VAT.

I thought 253 stood out but $5million for a filly! If she's really good she may win a $1million in prize money, and then she may have 10 or so foals. I'm not sure of the economics on that purchase. Thankfully they know more than me.
