Forgive me for being sceptical but two others signed 5 year contracts not so long ago. Neither are still at the club.
It's a safety blanket if he wants to move on in a few years time we get more cash. So nothing to be sceptical about.
I thought Targett was superb against Arsenal in the League Cup. Shane Long was later asked of his opinion of his performance as a debutant, and he said he played as if he'd been playing for 20 years. Bertrand need to stay at the very top of his game to keep Targett out, which is exactly what you want. Plus, they can always cover for each other. Besides, both can play LS midfield, in a 4-4-2 or 4-5-1, so there could be a scenario when they're on the field at the same time.
I thought we were doing four year deals lately. Good news. IIRc the boy is actually a local saints fan.
Makes total sense...we either get a good player for us or we get another pay day. Can't let him just sidle out of the door whilst we aren't paying any attention. As said, he played very well against Arsenal (repeat: Arsenal!!). Yet another of our youngsters who slide effortlessly into the first team playing in the Premier League...showing that our training system really works.
It always makes me laugh the words they come up with to convey a rumour. Poised, set to, on the verge of, will, could be, preparing to, want to, are monitoring, is very close to...
With opportunities in both cup competitions and it is likely that Ryan will get some sort of injury or suspension sooner or later then Matt can come in to claim his spot and get more experience at Premier League level. Easing him in nicely
