I'm starting to get anxious with no news on getting a tall strong experienced striker does anyone have malkys phone number want to point out that there's a certain John Carew a free agent who's played at prem level and 6ft5 fits the bill quiet well IMO We need a plan B
john carew, pretty average mercenary, not what we need. gestede is probably the target man but not up to the task imo, i'll leave that to mackay though
Carew - lazy, disrupts changing rooms, will want too much money and couldn't catch Andy Taylor in a sprint. Leave it to Malky.
Damn we missed out on Trundle , he's signed for PNE , time to put all my money into a Greggs franchise in preston I think
I personally think that gestede can be the big striker we need. He just needs to sort out his injury problem. Remember his flick to whitts against cov, which ended in a sweet volley? I think he can do the job.
Plan B could do with being able to score goals. Rudy's record last season was not even close to good enough for a striker. Doesn't stop me liking him though and his performance against Liverpool suggests he can cause the best defenders a problem in the air. But you can't get past he didn't score enough goals and missed a few important chances when he did come off the bench a few times last season. I repeat, for some reason, it doesn't stop me liking him!
I kind of like Rudy, rightly or wrongly, he reminds me of Leo FW. Gives his all when on the pitch, not the most gifted and a bit clumsy looking at time, but someone who gives everything. Don't think he'll ever be a prolific goal scorer but a good target man to have in the side. I am a bit concerned that he does seem injury prone.
To me a target man is someone who can hold the ball and bring others into play. This involves having your back to the goal a lot. We need someone who can play off him in the goal scorer mold. Also rudy didn't start many games last season so we can't really judge him on last season. I think, with a good pre-season, rudy could be 'The Man'.
He set himself apart from some of our previous plaers with his one legged display (can't remember who it was against). Could barely walk and we'd used all our subs but he didn't ask to come off, just limped around getting in the opposition's way. That's what earns fans respect. I don't expect great things of him but I think a full pre-season will do him good and he'll be a useful squad player.
Gestede. 31 games, 21 as substitute. Doesn't fall over to easily either. I like Gestede, but he was very injury prone last season, if he can get past that he could be very good for us.
A full pre season with us could be just what the doctor order for him and then he may score and ply more for us!! Thats what i think but i would still like to see a new player who fits the bill too we would still need cover if we got injuries.
I'm still not convinced Malky will play with a traditional target man. He seems to like playing 4-2-3-1 and being strong in the middle of the pitch. I think he will rely on moving the ball through midfield. However if he does stay with that system we will need a lot more pace.
I think that was the 0-0 v Leicester. All subs used by HT if my memory is correct (?) Watched a clip on CC Player earlier from Training camp. Richard Collinge saying Rudy has been working hard throughout the summer building his strength and fitness up and has responded well. Match conditions will be the true test but its a step in the right direction or in Rudy's case, usually a limp
Uncalled for H. True, but uncalled for. Looked at the photos on the official site and there was a piccy of Rudy. He seems fairly ripped. I wonder about the intensity of the footy he played before us. Hopefully we'll see a bit more from him this season if he's fitter. Mason seems to have bulked up as well.
