Does anyone remember Georgio Chinaglia? He only played in 6 games for the Swans as a young kid mostly as sub, I still have the programs, no not selling. He used to come on and pass the ball into the middle of nowhere, run around up front like a headless chicken, this was around 1964-5 when I first started watching the Swans. Then he went back to Italy, aged 19. Played with a couple of minor teams then ended up in Lazio where he scored 98 goals in 209 appearances. He got 14 caps for Italy and I remember watching him in the World Cup. Those passes were precision for players to run on to, Italy had the quality to do that, those headless chicken runs were him getting away from his marker, getting the ball and scoring the goals. He played the same as he did at Swansea but he was way ahead of them, it all fell into place, I understood. In 1976 he joined the New York Cosmos along with Pele and Franz Beckenbauer and became their all time leading goalscorer, 243 goals. He was inducted into the US Hall of Fame in 2000 and named Lazio's greatest player of all time. Not the greatest player in his time of playing for Swansea, but probably the greatest Swansea player ever.
