I usually like listening to talk ****e but even before a ball has been kicked in the word cup im fed up of listening to them bigging up England chances. I want to hear about all the teams playing not how great England are and how well they are going to do. They very occasionally have a foreign premiership player on and today it was our own W Bony and he hardly had a few minutes to talk about his country before it got turned around to England's chances. I cant imagine what it will be like if England win a game... I think i will listen to smooth radio and chill out instead..
This is why I said on another thread the sooner they are knocked out the better. It's the same every tournament when every sensible person knows they haven't got a hope in hell of winning the bloody thing.
They won't get through the group stages. I can only seeing them get a max 3 points. Italy and Uruguay will go through.
What makes me cringe is a lot of the time it is the Scottish presenters and England ex cricketers over exaggerating how good England are..
not anti- English by any means but to me they look the weakest English squad that thats left these shores for a long time and if they progress through the group stages then they'll have done well imo.
It's called arse licking to keep their jobs. That's why I'm gutted Roy Keane isn't out in Brazil with ITV, as loath him or love him, he calls a game as he sees it.
I think they may have enough to scrape through the early stages but no further than that is my guess. Bony's team kick off on saturday so i will be more interested in that especially if he plays..
Should try to enjoy the rest of the teams instead of venting youre anger on one . ------GO ENGLAND by the way , not sure if they have enough to do it but hope they do .
The English media tend to go through a cycle before the major tournaments. From when the team qualifies to approximately 2 weeks before the World/European Cup they will play down England's chances, saying they should just give it a go, nothing to lose, etc. The closer the tournament gets, it then starts with the "Are we underestimating England?" headlines, with more and more "experts" now tipping them to go far and making the Quarter-Finals at least. Mark Lawrenson said in his column that not a single Italian player would get in the English team!!!!
It's irritating to non-English types and I get that but is it that unnatural for the English media to get a little over excited? At least they are there. Our effort was frankly pathetic. Do you think the media in Wales would be any different if we'd made it? Come on. Do you want some sauce with those chips? It's just fashionable outside of England to knock the media during the build up.
I agree dragonborn - if Wales had qualified our media would go into overdrive as well. I hope England do very well - I wish we were there, but were not. The huge difference between the Welsh and the English is that the English like to big themselves up, but in Wales we tend to approach a lot of things in life with the attitude of "we're not very good really". So when someone says "I'm the best" it is seen as arrogance.
Now thats different question , break it down between us and Cardiff then I think you'll see contrasting reporting and headlines .
