Maybe I am completely missing the point, but surely it makes absolute sense for your best penalty taker to go last? As this shoot out (and England Italy for that matter) have proved, Missing first doesnt mean you have lost - the earlier you miss the easier it is to repair. By that logic you would want your most certain, confident penalty takers to be 5, then 4, then 3? Ronaldo got a lot of stick for wanting to be number 5 tonight - those players who missed would still have had to take a penalty, and the further down the list you are the more pressure you are under. So by all likelihood they would have missed anyway!
The point is that at 5 you may not get to take one because you have already lost - apparently they reckon the best takers should go 1st and 4th
Ronaldo wanted all the glory for himself. As I've always suspected, his ego matters more to him than the team.
