Looks like it is close, but not American but British. http://www.southlondon-today.co.uk/Sport.cfm?id=39631&headline=Charlton This is good news, if it enables Powell to bring in some better players.
Wow! Didn't expect that on my Wednesday off work. It sounds like its a modest takeover, but if the article is accurate I'm happy for the club to continue to grow organically. Despite what was written in voice of the valley - I never thought that asking price was correct information. Doubt these guys are paying 40mil.
What is interesting is that it is a Property Company. I wonder if there is any mileage in moving the Club to the Peninsula.
Good point. I also wonder if its a property company, whether they are TJ's associates. Not too bothered by new signings if we get a number of the existing players and staff on new contracts. That has to be the priority.
If this information is true, this club owes a huge debt of gratitude to Slater and Jiminez. You have to say that they have been very successful in running this club, getting promotion etc. of course very few will accept this particular the ungrateful bedwetters that have spent the last two years slagging them off.
What is interesting is that at first they talk about a takeover by a Property Company then they say it will be completed by an Investment Company........... two totally different animals ?
As I have stated on another thread, I believe Slater and Jiminez have overall done a decent job in firstly getting us promotion and allowing us to survive in the Championship. I also stated that they should look to sell if the club is to continue its rebuilding and they will not back the manager. If (as looks likely) they are looking to sell to more willing investors at a time they are either unwilling or unable to provide the investment required to take us to the next level then I will wave them off into the sunset with gratitude and thanks. One reservation I would have would be that more often than not new owners bring in their own managers, as I am firmly in the 'give Powell a contract extension' camp. Having said that, it's not like the current administration are in any rush to sign him up either. Another would be that it is to a property company, what would that mean for the future of the valley? Interestingly, I didnt know that the £7m owed to RM was not re-payable until (and if!) we return to the Premier League. This essentially means (if the article is accurate) we only have £4m of debt which I am almost certain is a drop in the ocean compared to many other clubs in our division. With the financial rewards that are there for getting into the Premier League these days RM would have no problems at all getting his £7m back.
Sounds promising. If new owners take over, they will surely want to build strong relations with the fans ASAP. Therefore, we will probably see - A new contract for Chris Powell - who is, undoubtedly, more popular than not New contracts for our best players A firm answer on transfer funds A firm(ish) answer on the future of The Valley A clear and cohesive plan for the club moving forward These five will most certainly lift the gloom currently hanging over the club. CAFC!
Great news Jiminez going.....rejoice ! rejoice ! (I am starting to sound like Frankie Howard) A recent survey of clubs subject to a takeover shows that 99.9% of new owners install their own manager (Report by Vol Reserach Ltd, 2013) Powell Lovers...the End if Nigh
So there we all were, happy for once. Even Volly had a smile as he mistakenly thought new director would want Tony Pulis to come in and hoof the ball endlessly up in the air to our new seven foot tall striker we'd just bought from Poznan. And what happens? Enter stage left Dick 'glass of cold wáter in the face' Plum, with the news that we're no nearer a deal than we were with Zabeel that time, and the party ended. Still, Volly can still dream of Pulis and his route one football.
"Charlton's new owners have announced that following the takeover, their first major investment will be in 12,000 surgical neck braces. This recognises the injuries currently being inflicted on fans by watching Powell's version of hoofball"
I would not wish to throw cold water in anybody's face, I am just expressing a note of caution. Let us celebrate when it is official.
@ ken You must be chuffed at the news that the new owners are backing Powell, and will be giving him funds for a promotion push in January. I can just hear the excuses being dusted off now ready for April, when having bought 6 new players, we are still in the bottom 6. "SCP has had too much money to spend, he is a better manager dealing with freebies"
Absolutely, although the internet police restrict the viewing of 95% on the websites used on newsnow......I am left to making assumptions based on the headline....
I'm with FHB on this one. Being a Charlton fan means tempering both excitement and disappointment in equal measure.
No way. It's like Father Christmas. You have to believe. And yes I'm checking the internet every hour or so.
