I unashamedly stole this from the budgie board but this is a realy good test to do. We all give referees and match officials some real stick but the question is could you do any better? I am a referee and I found some of these questions quite difficult. Test your knowledge of the game and at the end the results are collated into football club supporters across the country to see which group of fans are most knowledgeable on the laws of the game. Surely this is something that we can beat the Budgies at! http://www.ultralase.com/vites/referee-theory-test
Not now Warky, he is at under 14s now Div 1 on saturday mornings, so bit serious these days, get proper refs etc....last thing they need is a div like me getting as many things wrong as right out there...! Have run the line for them in the past though.....
We had a referee last Sunday for my son's U15 game who actually turned up in a full suit before the game and inspected the pitch etc. He then went on to send 2 players off for just petty offences. Diabolical but hey the referee's that turn out every Sunday are to be applauded as without them we wouldn't have a game. I took the whistle up about 10 years ago and I thoroughly enjoy it infact I would recommend it to anyone.
Can a player not be called offside by gaining an advantage and by being in an offside position? I'm not sure these questions are official?
"A player in an offside position is only penalised if, at the moment the ball touches or is played by one of his team, he is, in the opinion of the referee, involved in active play by: interfering with play or interfering with an opponent or gaining an advantage by being in that position" I think that test is not to be taken as gospel to be honest, above is what the laws actually say.
The most bizarre situation that I have officiated on was when I awarded a penalty for a clear foul inside the penalty area. The penalty taker runs up and slams his kick against the cross bar and as the ball rebounds he runs up and heads it into the net. I am sure that I got the call right but what is the correct decision?
Spot on but at the time of me awarding the free kick the attacking team were too busy celebrating and meanwhile the defending team had got on with play!
The offside law is an absolute nightmare as we all know. How many times each week do ref assistants make the wrong judgement calls even on fairly simple and straight forward decisions. One of the grey areas is when a defender touches the ball before an attacker in an offside position latches onto it. I was told that the attacker should not be penalised if the defender gets a deliberate touch on the ball! No wonder we are in such a mess over the offside law!
if the goalkeeper palms it out, it's offside when the ball was played by the last attacker, right? The question was posed in such a way that two options were correct. If it's a deliberate flick or pass by a defender then not offside, but if its a deflection then that defender hasn't played the ball on... common sense surely?
It SHOULD be common sense but when you have only a few seconds to make a decision on what you have seen and interperated that decision I can honestly see why mistakes are made. I have run the line many times and it is a thankless task when you have to follow where the ball was kicked from to the where the recieving player is and then determine if he was offside when the ball was kicked! It is also difficult when a player comes back from an offside position and then is active in the build up. I can see why some mistakes are made and i salute these officials who do this job every week!
just got the wife to do the test........ 2 correct, got her to register as a narwich fan !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I assume a new pair of shoes will not be over £20 ?????????????????????????????????????????????????
