http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/championship/table Can we just all take a minute to reflect on our remarkable achievement. Out of the top 6 in the championship atm, 3 of them (West Ham, Blackpool and Birmingham) were all prem teams this time last year, one of them about to crowned carling cup champions! 2 others from the top six (Cardiff and Reading) were involved in the play offs last year and the remaining team (little old us) was flirting with League 1 automatic promotion! In 2 years and a half years we have gone from bottom of league 1 to outperforming and beating premier league teams! No matter what happens this season we can be so proud of our achievements in such a short space of time! NA and NC are the men! I love Southampton FC
I can live with not going up, but I prefer to dream.... But whatever happens, loved every minute of it. A truly proud Saint. What an amazing couple of seasons.
Yeah..! League One was fantastic. I loved it, even with Pardew, the JPT win and the near miss. This one is proving to be every bit as good.
dare i say it, but if we go up, it could well be years before we feel as happy again with our team! The last 2/3 seasons weve been spoilt rotten! Promotion brings the club together as one and has such a good vibe around the club! The only way we can match this feeling again once in the prem will surely be through the cups?
I could answer that by quoting Cortese's idea of where he wants Saints to be in a few seasons time. But I'm not going to, because you all know it. But it would absolutely superb if it all came true, and tbh, there's no point in not believing Nicola's ideas and ambitions for Saints future. What do you lose, but a good feeling..?
Much more exciting than being in mid-table obscurity. We have excelled so far this season and have just turned the corner after our Christmas blip.
Ironically if we were seventh I think there'd be a lot less negativity. Are Saints going up? Well we're in a damned good position and even if we only made the play-offs this season that more than exceeded my pre-season expectations.
In fact with 31 games played last season we were 5th in League 1 and very much looking at the play-offs. Then we had an amazing finish and won 13 of the last 15. Nige and the boys have done it once before...keep the faith.
You beat me to it, I was going to make exactly the same point. After 31 games (the 31st being the away loss to Walsall which we should have won 8-0), last season we were 6 points behind Bournemouth in 2nd and 10 behind Brighton. We finished 3 behind Brighton. "Keep the faith" puts it rather well.
Great post and puts everything into perspective - great season (again!), having fun and enjoying the football once again
Excellent post. Like others, I also enjoyed League 1 and our rise to second top of the Championship. The last few years have been fantastic and it would be nice to think this could continue. However, as has been pointed out, the PL will be tough, very tough - but it will be nice to be back there eventually.
We may not enjoy the PL as much as the last few years, because games will be harder, but we enjoyed our previous incarnation as a top league side. It's the excitement of seeing how we do against top sides. Life's great though.
Just to add to the good feeling: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17045345 and [I love the new football tables on the BBC website]:
Ha, exactly. Also, where does he get that bloody permanent tan from..? Being of the slightly Mediterranean extraction, I spend half the year looking a tad jaundiced until the Sun comes out. Then within 20 minutes I look as healthy as Nigel.
