John Gregory's quote "Credit to Bristol. They put four on up front and just stuck the ball in our half of the pitch as often as they could. They had the wind behind them as well. They deserved to win it - we didn't. There are more ways than one to stop teams scoring besides packing the defensive half;......press in attacking numbers and don't let them get out of there own half seems to have done the trick here. Sounds more like the way we used to play..........just have to be careful that the opposition greyhound doesn't break away......alla Bobby Jones. Thought I would add this from John Ward as it sort of confirms the point. Things changed in the second half, though, when goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall was a virtual spectator and goals in the last seven minutes, from Eliot Richards and John-Joe O’Toole means that his side will now face Birmingham City in round three.
think 1st half ward just concentrated on not conceding but we did concede and thankfully crawley was happy to sit back and settle for a 1-0 win. 2nd half ward had to make changes if he wanted to try and progress in the cup. he did, it worked and thats a good sign. but why dont we start games how we normally end game. go for the win and dont hold back like we did at fleetwood and against burton last season.
This season our main problem is scoring goals, last season it was conceding them. Ward got it spot on last night and his decision to go for it reaped dividends. More attacking please.
we been calling out for more attacking football for months. every time we go attacking we win. but then go defensive for the next 5 games. we dont seem to learn!
