"When Andy and Suarez are playing together, I think Suarez can move into space off him. He's a very good reader of the game and he's on fire at the moment. He looks eager to play, gives 100 per cent and that's what supporters want.

    Ian Rush

My point being that when Carroll plays we need the team to play to his strengths at times and I don't think we have so far.

When we play a high ball to Carroll he does tend to get his head to it and flick it on to noboday. Is this his fault though?

Basics when playing with a striker who is good in the air is to play off him and gamble on him winning the ball, we have not been doing this and need to start doing so.

    Anyone agree?

Lets not turn this into a Carroll is crap thread. I'm talking to you mancs!

    i think this is fair.

It is no suprise that the first time that bellamy got the ball wide he put in enrique behind the Everton defence and this gave Carroll good ball to come onto.... lets not get distracted by kuyt's dummy. He had overrun the position and was well in front of the front stick so it was just logical.

I have been disappointed more and more by our lack of width. Especially seeing downing is a winger! he seems to play 10 yards in field and wants to coming more infield all the time so our full backs rarely get an over lap going with him. This i feel is vital to getting the most out of carroll.... if you trun any side and get in behind you cause problems and both suarez and carroll would love these sort of chances.

In short hoofing it long at an isolated andy carroll is as pointless as doing the same thing with torres and it has to end. Carroll is far more likely to win it so you have to get in around him to get the benefit that's for sure but I'd prefer us to get our wide men playing properly, creating overlaps and seeing to get to the byline.

To be honest, I rather Carroll wasn't involved at all for the time being as I believe he hinders the style of play with his lack of movement.

But if he is going to play, I don't want him to be coming in deep to win a header or hold the ball because it doesn't seem to be working at all. I want him to be in the box at the end of a move and to put them away. I don't want him involved in the play at all until that final moment because his touch is just so poor and just can't link up well.

I reckon he should play some part against Man U, there is a reason for that, its the long streak of piss in the Man U goal. If Carroll is on form, he will destroy him.

I think we need play the ball to him from better areas, Carragher and Skrtel should be banned from hitting it long from the back. Not seen many balls coming in from Downing in wide areas recently. Think we should be getting the ball into his feet in and around the area now and again too rather than balls for him to head every time

I reckon he should come on as sub against United, but at the same time also putting Bellamy on, and taking Kuyt and Adam off. We will have left United tired seeing as they would have been chasing shadows seeing as Suarez has been making their defenders turn 3 different directions at the same time.

When he's on the pitch Suarez needs to adapt and play closer to him, I think Gerrard will also work well with him and take the chance of him flicking a ball on.

I think the key to getting the best out of Carrol may be by playing Bellamy. For me I think they would compliment each other pretty well, to me both players will be familiar with flick ons and with Bellamy's pace it could be very useful. I think Suarez perhaps is not used to playing with a kind of target man where as Bellamy has played most of his career in this way. So for me I would play Bellamy behind behind Carrol but with him and Suarez interchanging all the time when the ball is played high to Carrol Bellamy knows he is looking for the flick. This way I think we may have the best of both worlds; the ability to use the genius of Suarez and the ability to use the height of Carrol and of course the pace of Bellamy, just a thought.
