Taarabt seeks contract improvement after new recruits earn bigger wage

ADEL TAARABT will push for an improved contract from boss Neil Warnock after mega-earners Joey Barton and Shaun Wright-Phillips arrived at QPR.

Barton has joined from Newcastle on a deal worth around £65,000 a week, while Wright-Phillips will pocket £55,000 a week after signing from Manchester City.

That leaves Taarabt suddenly lagging well behind in the Hoops wage table – as he earns around – £25,000 a week.

And as a result he will seek talks over a better deal.

The Moroccan, 22, was the key behind their promotion to the Premier League last season and almost joined PSG this summer.

Rangers blocked the move as they insist they do not want to lose their best players.

But Taarabt will now look to boost his salary on the basis of Barton and Wright-Phillips having changed the pay structure. Taarabt has a contract until 2013 – but is understood to have a break clause which allows him to leave next summer if the right offer comes in.

At least the midfielder should be a bit happier at Loftus Road as close friend Armand Traore joined the club this week from Arsenal.

He'll have to sign a new contract then and actually commit himself to the R's, I think he may have to put in some performances to earn it...

If true.... then show us on the pitch Adel till january you deserve it and the board would likely improve his contract.

Couldn't agree more, he's no longer the big fish in our pond.
He needs to show that he deserves the extra cash before he should expect to receive a better offer.
Barton and Wright-Philips have already done it.
I would love to see Adel do the business, but I cant help but think of him as somewhat self opinionated.
    Put up Adel or ....

I'm getting tired of all this adel talk. he was brilliant last season and was a big factor in us going up but he didn't do it by himself. he's now an average player in a very difficult division. if he wants to sulk then let him do it elsewhere.

Spot on. It does show however that signing big players on big wages is a risky business when trying to keep the proverbial "apple cart" from becoming upset.

It's a bullshit story lads, to get a pay rise, he needs to sign a new contract.
And last I heard he wants to leave.

Sounds like bollocks to me. He was on very good money last season so I very much doubt he'd still be on £25k given promotion bonus and the like.

Can we sack Vine for being a lazy bastard with no intention of getting fit and give it to Adel?

Lots of you agreeing with inkedupp that Adel is just an average player. I can't agree with that and, although I acknowledge all his baggage, I wonder how anyone who thinks they know anything about football can call Taarabt an "average" player!!

I'm with rangercol on this one. Adel is still a valuable player in our team and will help provide our new players with good service, or create space by drawing in defenders. New contract? Sure, but he'll have to negotiate some similar terms to our new players as well if he wants similar deals to them.
It was bound to happen sooner or later that current players like Adel and Paddy would be knocking on the door for new deals. And if we are able to do it, then we should; both will be valuable players to the squad.

On his day, Adel can do stuff that few other players can - true, he can look average at times, and then does something brilliant. The game at Cardiff last season was an example with two great goals. Personally, I think he's gonna thrive with the added talent around him. He has it in him to mature from the talented prima donna into a consistently high scoring midfielder, dangerously unpredictable for opposing sides. And the transition starts against Newcastle...

Cant see them giving Adel a pay rise if he is looking to move i think he would need to show some loyalty to the club by extending his contract.

almost definately. his fitness needs improving and needs to show he deserves what he wants. I say goodluck to him, but ultimately this is now the premier league, different ball game to championship football.

Adel was certainly not an average player last season was he - he was brilliant.

So far this season he has lacked fitness and looks like he has eaten too much wedding cake....

But the signs are positve and he is getting fitter and could yet be just as influential for us this season,

I can understand him not being happy, suddenly some of his team mates are earning much more than him, and when he signed his contract there was a wage cap which has now gone out of the window.

The solution though as others have pointed out is very straight forward, he needs to negotiate a contract extension at which point his wage issue will addressed. Simples.

It doesn't mean he will have to stay at the club any longer than he wanted to stay anyway but it will make him a more valuable asset for the club which means we should be able to get a higher transfer fee when he does go.

What adels needs to do is extend his contract, take a nice wage rise and then focus on performing to the best of his ability and getting fit, so that PSG come back in January with £20+ million bid, but unless he gets fit and starts to consistently prove his ability in the Premier league his transfer opportunities are going to be very limited.

what has barton and swp done to deserve it.
adel got us into prem with all his goals
not saying he deserves to be paid more
but he deserves it more than players who have done nothing for qpr so far.
will barton be paying his own fines
or taking pay cuts forthe matches he WILL be missing through suspension

Give Adel time, the signs were there against Wigan, on another day he'd have scored two. It wouldn't surprise me if he does the business next Monday.

Barton & SWP are premier league players Adel still has to prove he can cut it thats why they are paid the money, agreed he was great for us last year but he needs to get fit and start putting in the performances that we know he can.
