Sounds like the French Kieron Dyer to me. He's on a free though so it's not the end of the world.

Too lazy to search for myself. How comes he sounds like a crock?
& how did we get him when everyone thought he was joining the bindippers?

Agreed, not too worried if he's just back up plus bonus that he's free too.

Looks like we may have to change our name to 'Les noirs et blancs' to reflect our current French speaking bias ;-)

He's had one injury, or have I missed something?

However former French U21 international Marveaux hasn't kicked a ball since November 2010 after suffering a groin tear which required surgery to rectify - the third operation on the thigh/groin area that he's undergone in six years. The Rennes website reported that he resumed training in late April, but wasn't considered for a first team recall.

Earlier this week Sylvain looked set to join Liverpool, a transfer that was first mooted in late December 2010 when he travelled to Merseyside to watch them play Wolves - before Dalglish took over from Roy Hodgson.

Press reports in both England and France claimed on Friday however that he was unable to pass a medical. Those stories brought an angry reaction from the player, who commented that:

"I am in good health and fit to play...It disgusts me to read a few things like that because I know it could affect the rest of my career. Today I can commit to undergo a medical before you and you will see there is no problem.

"I do not want to go into details, but if I did not sign in Liverpool, because there was a contractual disagreement between the parties on Thursday night."

We wouldn't be Newcastle fans if we didn't panic/see every cloud in our silver linings :)

I'm applying for the physio's job at SJP.....just think of all the overtime.

I hope we put in sneaky bids for Dyer, Owen and Woodgate.

Pretty sure they weren't all groin injuries, the 09 one was hamstring. They can all be classified under "thigh injuries" though

Also had thigh and hamstring issues and setbacks caused by calcification which slows down his recovery rate. And perhaps most tellingly, West Ham were linked with him before they went down.

That's completely different, Ben Arfa's was the result of an impact, it could've happened to anyone. Marveaux's body keeps breaking down. He's only a squad player though and he's on a free, Ba's injury worries are more concerning because he should be leading the line next year.

And how much of last season did AC miss with a thigh / Groin injury???? About the same amount!!!

Still sold for £35 mill this lad has cost us nowt in terms of transfer fee.

Looks a good player with a low financial risk
