Interesting that he got most assists of all our players this year! I felt bad for him this year. I really felt like he was trying 100% every time he played, which is all I ask from a player. I never got the impression he didn't care/wasn't trying. I also felt he was unlucky when his goal was (foolishly) disallowed - he strikes me as a confidence player and may have a had a very different season had the decision been the correct one. Am I a crazed man, or is there a room for a revisionist case in regards to SWP?!
He was a very good player, but he's played so little football in the last few seasons, it's no wonder he wasn't up to form. But when a player is given a chance to play first team football, you'd expect a bit more than we got from him. But we said that HH was past it and we needed to get rid of him, but he's proved everyone wrong the last couple of seasons. So maybe Swp will turn it around, I hope so but the jury is out.
You are a crazed man but its nothing to do with this post, its your 293 previous ones that confirmed that. As for this post, you've made a very important point. If hes got more assists than anyone then that's impressive. If that goal had of been given, it could have kick started his season. Its amazing the player we've seen after that explosive debut against Newkie when he looked like he'd skin the whole League if you lined them up. Looks like Sparky's holding on to him so maybe we'll see a different player come August.
I hope this is so Swords, If only for that run and match changing shot that resulted in a corner v Stoke. I am prepared to forgive him and give him another go at the big-time.
The oompah loompah is finished, interesting stat though, what a load of bollocks how comes no one on here picked up on that during the season
I have a strong premunition SWP will come good next season, very good. Watch this space and serve me humble pie in a year if I'm wrong.
I don't know, a whole year is more than enough time for him to show us what he's made of. Reminds me of a dodgy motor, try it out for a while and if you can't rely on it, get rid. Sorry.
Thread of the week! As a fan of SWP I also hope he can rediscover the form that earned him an England call-up.
I agree with you Norway. I also agree with this twins. But surely he can't remain as un-productive as last season? I'm sure there is some sort of physical law that would back this up. Besides, we have shifted a lot of deadwood as it is. We can't remove everyone and replace a whole squad. Some have to stay and be given a chance to prove themselves. SWP over those that have made way anyday. I also think he does better as an impact sub, but in saying that, he had a great game v Citeh.
Harsh indeed, Rangers. And uncalled for to boot. You're a well balanced poster with your feet firmly planted on the ground. I'm amazed at that SWP assist Statistic. Cheers for that. I wouldn't have given him the time of day until I heard that.
I for one did point this out a few times during last season, trying to defend his place in the team, while 99.9% of the board wanted him out...
I was never a fan of his, vastly overrated player. We couldn't get rid of him if we wanted, who would take him after the season he has had? However, I agree with 9s his run and shot that led to the corner versus Stoke that led to the goal has bought him some goodwill in my eyes. Impact sub next season.
Whilst I've been very disappointed with SWP, he has been played out of position an awful lot. He's best when running at players from the right. However, a certain Mr Mackie had that position sewn up!!
Although I agree with most of the points above he's best days are behind him, however that does not mean he can not do a job and I also believe he will come good at some point but probably in fits and starts rather than a prolonged run of form. IMO he was most effective in a defensive role chasing back wingers and just holding up play in order for the team to reform, the big question is wheather he will regain any confidence going forward and that starts with passing to your team mates in the oppositions half!
It was only 6 goal assists though -there must have been a lot players with 5 each!! SWP started quite well but got gradually worse as his confidence seemed to go. But when he came on at the end of the season playing centrally in midfield he did OK. I think he will be a useful player to have around next season at least as a support player, and maybe with the pressure of expectation off him he will do better.
I wonder if his old mans comments put him off his game or if he was chipping away at him behind the scenes which further compounded his confidence in his ability. A good pre-season and can see not just SWP vut the whole team pull together as a unit and improve.
