    Genuine question.

Why so much hate for swp??

I live in Denmark so have not have the pleasure of going to LR this season but seen every game online, and I don't see why he's getting nailed on this forum.

Think he's a breath of fresh air, and that he's one of our best players!

Hes rubbish, never beats his man, cannot cross the ball, always cuts inside into 3 men and loses possession and cannot shoot. The last kick of the game sums him up, a chance to equalise and it ends up in the upper loft.
Yes he runs a lot but could well be the least intelligent footballer Ive seen in the PL.

Mind you, Hughes isnt helping him by playing him on the left.

Dan, was actually looking for someone to explain it to me rather then the usual bull I see so often on these forums.

Free speech and that I know but if you're one of the one's that disagree with me, try telling me why instead.

    Flyer, thank you.

I do disagree though, I know I'm almost alone on this, but think he creates a lot of chances for us, they rarely result in goals but have a sneaky suspicion that has to do with our strikers rather then swp.
He works his bum of, half the time he's winning the ball in our own area.

I know hard work isn't everything, you need the skill as well, but I truly believe with a better strike force all the doubters will have to eat their hats ;D

I cant actually remember him setting up many chances.

He set up Smith with an easy 10 yard pass against Wigan but also cost us a point by passing to an Arsenal player with none of our players anywhere near him.

Apart from that hes done nothing apart from lose possession and shoot over the bar although he was unlucky with the WBA non goal.

    Was just messing Copenhagen..

I was one of the most excited fans when I first heard the news of SWP's arrival to W12 and thought he would be one of our best players.

Don't get me wrong the effort is there and the work rate too. But he has completely lost his confidence and his decision making has gone way down hill. As Flyer stated he ALWAYS cuts in and makes it so easy for the defender to read.

I personally hope that MH can get the best out of him from now until the end of the season. The talent is there but just hasn't been exposes as of late. If anyone were to get the best out of him it would be MH having previously worked with him at Citeh. If he doesn't up his game within the next few games I can see MH dropping him.

    Welcome Copenhagen.
Straight question deserves a straight answer - I don't think there is 'hate' as such, just a lot of disappointment and frustration. SWP was probably the most expensive of our last minute buys in the summer, and we were all probably thinking of his highlights reel when we got him. What we forgot was this reel is very short for what is now a long career, and there is a reason he was a permanent-sub at City and Chelsea - he does one or two great things a year, rest of the time has poor ball control, a woeful cross, no eye for goal and a clumsy tackle. But he never gives up or moans, and because he is fast we still get excited when he picks the ball up in space. When he loses it or crosses into the Loft, the disappointment and frustration just grow, hence the outpourings on here.
Make sense? It's unfair because there is nothing he can do about it.

Dan, Fair enough, was just looking for an explanation.

Will be watching him closely on wednesday with your comments in mind, I might be staring myself blind at all the hard work he does, he seems to be everywhere!!!

SB.73 Thank you very much :D
It makes sense I just haven't seen it myself, will be watching closely next game :D

I think SWP works hard, defends better than before and his runs do does suck in defenders. But these runs increasingly go nowhere, in fact against chelsea saturday he hardly had a run at all! He seems to be suffering more and more from lack of confidence. I hope Traore coming back will give SWP a chance to play on the right where I think he's better too. If he doesn't improve soon, he'll be on the bench. It would be great if we could use him in part exchange for Moses!

You'll be surprised how many times he cuts in and loses possession rather than sprinting down the flank to whip a decent cross in.

Glad you eventually found the funny side to my banter Copenhagen ;)

Also remember hes on massive wages so should be excelling week in week out and he doesnt. If he was on 20k then people might accept it, not for 80k though.

    Hi Copenhagen.

I won't bother my brain with "new stuff" so I'll just re-post what i wrote on the thread below a couple of days ago:

"Just needs the rub of the green thats all. Brilliant against Newcastle, only a goal line clearence away from his first goal. Hit the post with a great shot away against Wolves, another game he was brilliant in. Scored goal of the season at HQ against WBA only to be wrongly flagged for offside. He always seem to be playing his best football with Adel in the side. Give Hughes some games to get the team playing his way and I'm sure SWP will perform better. But those who says he needs to play RM are spot on, Mackie needs to sit some games on the bench as soon as Traore and Adel comes back."

Check it out if you haven't already, you might find some answers there.

I have and always will be a fan of SWP. He's played out of his normal position too much, if he stayed on the right wing for a number of game you'd see how good he is. Didn't he get an assist at Villa?

Now Zamora on the other hand....

I believe the best place for SWP right now is substitute bench. He should be comin on about 65-75 min against already tired defenders ,like he did against Norwich. And yes he should be playing on the RIGHT wing.

After that first game against Newcastle he looked like our best winger since Sinclair. Its been all down-hill from there unfortunately.

No need to eat your hat, I think a lot of the assessment here by Flyer and 73 are spot on.

He also needs more support, though. Hopefully MH can figure that out a bit more tactically. With Tarbs back and Buz fit, with Cissé holding the ball up well and drawing defenders, that will help SWP find more space and, more importantly, time, to be able to move around and look up before he stumbles into a trap when he wants to pass.

He does need to play more right-midfield, and he may end up being a good connection with Cissé, who was already orchestrating how the ball should be fed in.
