Pompey Academy continued their impressive run of form in Merit League One with a 2-0 victory at Swindon that sent them top of the table.

Koby Mottoh provided the assist for Adam Payce (pictured) to open the scoring early in the second half, with the same combination wrapping the points up at the death.

Lead professional development phase coach Sam Hudson said: “It was a scrappy first half and we didn’t deal with their long passes too well or do enough to limit their counter-attacks.

“The pitch was also challenging and it took us a while to adapt to the conditions, so we weren’t able to get control of the game.

“But once we settled after the break, we managed to play around their diamond and looked a lot better.

“We were clinical with our chances and Koby twice set up Adam to finish well, with both goals coming off the back of good pressing.

“Harvey Laidlaw was a threat on the left and linked up well with the forward runners, but we did lack a consistent threat in behind.

“I was proud of our resilient defending, though, because although Swindon had chances, none of them were clear-cut.

“A second consecutive clean sheet was pleasing, especially because the last time we were here saw us concede five goals inside the opening 25 minutes!

“That’s the eighth shut-out in 16 appearances for Malachi Osei-Owusu this season and that’s a real positive.

“We also had another under-15s player in Tayo Singerr coming on to make his debut at this level, working hard up front and linking nicely with the midfield.”

Pompey: Malachi Osei-Owusu; Christian Ayres (Howard 80), Kevin Bosaka, Jack Fox, Harvey Laidlaw; Mitch Aston, Dan Murray (Staight 57); Koby Mottoh, Adam Payce, Jayden Keteku; Destiny Ojo (Tayo Singerr 66)
