Is anyone interested in having this again for 2012? If you are, what suggestions do you have for rules? I'd like to keep the four tier system. The first race or two might be a tad uncertain since we don't truly know which teams match up but for Australia we could just go with how they finished last season. What about the points system? 5 for each free practice, 10 for qualifying and 25 for the race seems good to me. Would anyone want tier-based bonus points (such as your driver or team lapping a driver or team in the same tier) or would that make it too complicated? Remember though, it's a random sweepstakes, not a prediction or fantasy F1 game. You shouldn't get points for a podium, just for winning your tier. How would you want to handle the team/driver allocation reveals? What about running the sweepstakes itself - should the highest scorer have to do the next one or would you prefer the mods and one or two of us to retain control?
My idea is medals for the winner.... no im kidding, How about a full tier scoring system. Then you will have a whole filed of competition between the 2nds and 3rds etc of all tiers instead of oh he has vettel i have no chance. Would make the points table at the end very close and interesting too

x Practice Qualyfying Race

1st 5 25 50

2nd 4 20 40

3rd 3 15 30

4th 2 10 20

5th 1 5 10

6th 0 0 0

I think very few changes should be made, if indeed any at all. Last year it worked beautifully (especially for me!) and was extremely popular with the whole forum, providing a lot of fun by virtue of its random luck factor. It also made sense to reduce the points for a tier winning team (as measured against those awarded for drivers), since this improved the chance of a player's success through waiting until all drivers had gone! Thankfully this was addressed soon enough to prevent this potential loop-hole from spoiling the fun. I would suggest that the season begins with the four tier system based on how teams finished last season, regardless of how they may perform in testing prior to Round 1. This will take out any guess-work and will not invite fruitless contention amongst us all about who may or may not stand better. It was a great thing you did Genji and I sincerely hope you'll stick around throughout the coming season. Thanks should also be offered to The Ninja Kirby for taking on the job half way through, who also did a thoroughly great job.
We certainly need the sweepstake back. There is nothing like the underwhelming feeling of getting d'Ambrosio three times in a row .
I think if a driver of tier 2 beats all of tier 1 (or 3 on 2/4 on 3) you should get double points. Very unlikely to happen, which is why i claim this.
Well a season wouldn't be the same without rooting for Glock, so in that sense I need the sweepstake On thoughts for running it I'd say simplicity is the key
Nice idea Fred. However, BLS has beaten me to suggesting that the reason it was so successful is wrapped up in its simplicity: Echoes all around…Echoes all around…Echoes all around… Echoes all around… Echoes all around…
The greater thanks, too. If Ninja likes doing this chore and wants to lead on it I'm perfectly happy to sit back.
ha, you think that's bad? I chose number 6 almost all season, the one time I was late choosing someone else took it and got Vettel. I think my only points came from when we all chose a team and I got McLaren. Also Vettel was not the best driver to get, I think the best point scorer last year was Kovi. Also, instead of Sweepstaking it, why don't we all just chose one driver from each pool per race. anyone who deletes or edits their posts get DQ'd.
I thought the format last season was pretty good, the only thing that I feel might need reworking is how to deal with extra participants over the 24 driver slots. I'm not sure entirely how many players we had last season, but it was regularly over 24, and I'd expect an influx of new posters around the time of the first race, so we might need a new contingency plan. Maybe assign every driver twice if we get that level of interest? Also, Miggins, I don't think that idea would work too well. Everyone would have Vettel as Tier 1 and Kovalainen as Tier 4, so it reduces the random element. It'd reduce it further still if a gap developed in the midfield.
TBH I never liked a random competition, I'd prefer to win and lose down to my own brilliance/incompetence, and it also means that we won't be limited to 24 entrants, it was fairly annoying to be exclude from the sweepstakes because someone who visited the site once or twice decided they'd enter, which seemed to happen a few times.
Status quo is fine by me, I thought it all worked very well as it is, many thanks to all who took control of it, good cheap fun, though could prove frustrating at times.
If we are concerned about 24 being too few - then set say 30, the draw having 6 'safety-car' blanks. If it turns out after 2 or 3 races that the extras aren't needed drop it back. Oh and THANKS to those who run it !!!!!
I think the sweepstakes was very successful last year and change should be kept to a minimum. To overcome the overcrowding we could give extra slots for random things such as safety car out, 1st corner crash, engine retirements the list could go on...
Yeah, I think any problems with the rules were ironed out over the course of last season. Plus, we understand the rules as they were last year so why confuse things with more changes?
the extra slots should be something that can score in all sessions. Maybe an expansion to 30 numbers to pick with the 24 drivers and a duplicate of the top 6 drivers in the mix. the teams idea was a easy points scorer. if we out grow the 30 then we can expand again.
