Swansea City vs Southampton Premier League Sat, 13 Feb, 15:00 Liberty Stadium Following Saturday's 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace, Swansea host Southampton at The Liberty Stadium for their next PL fixture. On the same day that Swansea were held by Palace, Southampton beat West Ham 1-0 despite Victor Wanyama being shown a straight red for a foul on Payet. Both teams are in a good run of form, with the Swans taking 8 pts from the last 12 pts on offer, and Southampton taking 10 points, including the notable scalp of Man Utd at Old Trafford. In the corresponding fixture last season, Southampton won 1-0 scoring late on following Bony's first half dismissal. Up until that point, the Swans were the better side, but in the second half Swansea's rearguard action fell short - Wanyama blasting in. I think the score will be 1-1, but hoping that Wanyama's absence will sway the result in Swansea's favour.
Another great thread Taff. My team would be --------------------------Fab----------------------- ------------Fed-------------Ash-------------Amat -------------------Leon------------Cork---------- Barrow/Routs--------Ki---------Gylfi-----------Monty/Ayew -------------------------Palo----------------- For me, that would give us much needed flair on the flanks, the creativity of Ki and Gylfi in the middle with the protection of Leon and Cork sitting just in front of the defence. Amat would also give us a needed height and physical presence defending set pieces etc.
Our nemesis Wanyama had a red card yesterday so will probably be missing, which means we could play with a bit more of a lightweight/attacking midfield. If we are negative Southampton will kill us, lets go for it. Montero to come on for either Routs or Barrow after 70. If Baloschi is having another quiet game, Gomis to come on at 60. --------------------------Fab----------------------- Rangel------------Fed----------Ash-----Taylor -------------------------Leon---------------------- Barrow--------Ki---------Gylfi--------Routledge -------------------------Palo----------------- Subs: Ayew, Cork, Montero, Amat, Naughton, Gomis, Thordvelt
I think the saints will win this 0-2 if we cant sort out our problems up front. Saints will put plenty of crosses into our box so we had better be alert or we will be punished. We must practice our crosses into the oppositions area so our forward can at least have a chance of scoring all this week as it's poor and letting us down. Siggs should be a receiver of corners not take them imo as he is one that we have who knows where the goal is. So plenty of work to do if we are going to have a chance of beating the saints.....
This is going to hurt....I agree with Dai on the prediction. After yesterday I'm not convinced we're positive enough in attack. Far too ponderous, and that's an approach that will be meat and drink for Saints who will be given plenty of time to get men behind the ball. The only thing that'll alter that view is if the Coach changes things and I don't see it happening as he's a conservative type who won't take chances. We'll lose by two goals. As always, I hope I end up with egg on my face. We have a decent striker in Paloschi and others who can score goals but I don't see nearly enough creativity or supply. Let's hope the Coach sees it too.
I'd be delighted with a point from this one. Saints are a good side. If Guids sets us up the same as we have been then we can't win, we're not creating enough scoring chances.
I don't think we've beaten the Saints in the Prem yet and I can't see it happening next week. I can't say I'd be delighted with a point because we've got Spurs and Arsenal coming up and could do with three points from somewhere. Swans 1 Saints 1
We did beat them away last season - it was like Rorke's Drift at times, but won with a Shelvey special. At the Liberty, they've won the last 2 games 1-0
Fab Naughton , Fernandez , Williams , Taylor Ayew , Fer/Ki , Britton , Siggy , Routs Paloschi Not sure if Ki will be ready .This is the team I think will be picked . The team I would pick is( if Ki is ready ) Fab Fer , Fernandez , Williams , Naughton Barrow , Ki , Britton , Siggy , Ayew Paloschi
I'd go with: Fab Naughton , Fernandez , Williams , Taylor Ayew , Ki , Britton , Siggy , Barrow Paloschi ...but still think we'll struggle unless we actually go for the win.
Southampton haven't conceded in the last 5 PL matches, winning 4 of them. But there's hope, prior to these games they lost 1-0 to Norwich! Southampton 1-0 West Ham Arsenal 0-0 Southampton Man Utd 0-1 Southampton Southampton 3-0 West Brom Southampton 2-0 Watford
Given that our next 2 fixtures after the Saints game are away matches at Spurs and Arsenal, we really need something from Southampton
