If you have 5 minutes to spare then well worth reading the article on the Swiss Ramble-an excellent, well-researched and unbiased report into the Swans past/current and importantly future income streams
It also outlines in detail the payments guaranteed over the next 4 seasons

    http://swissramble.blogspot.com/2011/06/swansea-city-back-in-big-time.html

Swansea had the 4th lowest budget in the Championship
Swansea had the 4th lowest wage bill
Swansea had the 4th highest profit

The club are also not attempting to 'cook the books'

''Swansea’s balance sheet is markedly different to most other football clubs in other aspect, as it shows very few assets for two reasons: (1) the club does not own the stadium; (2) it does not include player valuations. Swansea have taken the prudence concept to the extreme with zero value. According to the respected Transfermarkt website, Swansea’s squad was worth around £19 million in reality.''

Huge respect must be given to all members of the board and management team-

''In fact, Swansea have done better than most in their challenge of “protecting the wage structure in the face of increasing player market demands”, as their policy of focusing on hungry, young (and relatively cheap) players has resulted in one of the lowest wage bills in the Championship. In fact, only three clubs (Scunthorpe United, Millwall and Doncaster Rovers) had lower wage bills in 2009/10 than Swansea’s £8.3 million. Almost half of the teams had wages at least double Swansea’s with a few spending three times as much. For Swansea to gain promotion despite their financial disadvantages is extremely impressive, as there is usually a very strong correlation between wages and success on the pitch''

Did you pick up that swansea only pay ground rent if there are over 16000 in attendance, very interesting that

That was something that stood out and seems to explain why reference has been made that no rent has been paid
It appears that the Council have been more than supportive and allowed for the club to increase support without having to suffer financially should attendances be slim
They look like they're about to be paid back this season though!

Brilliant, well researched and very well written.

I think Huw and the board deserve all the credit they get for running a football club "differently", by running it properly

The future is bright... he future is black and white

Top article. A lot of good points in there and shows we are in good hands. Like the way we dont cook the books by adding player values etc. Lets hope we can keep it up when the 10's of £millions come through the door.

That does explain a lot about payments to the council, but it doesn't explain why a loan from them of £2.5m was loaned, what it was used for and why they are making a loss and can't afford to put away £200k a year on maintenance of the liberty, also if the 16k figure is right they should be paying the council come august.

As for the article itself I can only say it was a top notch read, and the author of it deserves a lot of plaudits for a well thought out researched piece, I have copied it to a word doc socan peruse in future.

Well I would like to reiterate what many of you have stated, top notch article in my view, and explains almost everything regarding no rent being paid, I think that this could have only been achieved through the economics of the retail park being built as part of the complete project. there are still some questions that need answering, as Jager points out, but on the whole it does give insight into how well the Swansea City Board has done, and makes compelling reading for any Jack, and a must read for good old Daiswan. It's a shame it took an outsider to put such an article together, when I think that the Trust or club could have given us fans this insight and re-assurance, but then maybe it's just as well, coming from someone completely not connected to our club, gives more impact to the clubs achievement, and should make the most sceptic Jack, pleased with the workings of Swansea City, well done Huw Jenkins and all members of Swansea city board!.........................

PS: Special mention must go to 'alswan' for digging this gem of an article, particularly after the debate we had on this subject with Jager's thread on Rent, which I can't seem to find now!...............

Great article and great site. The Author, Swiss Rambler,is a Brit now living in Switzerland who consistently writes informed articles regarding the business of football. Well worth bookmarking his site.Interesting to see the onsite article has also generated 16 positive replies, and not all from Swans fans either. The Gospel is spreading.

Yeah I regularly read the Swiss Ramble as it offers a different insight to the way modern clubs (and the game itself) are evolving.

Cracking article on us, puts us slightly more in debt than I thought but also with a better future too. I don't see how our board could muck this up even if the money went to their heads now!
