Swansea City v Wigan Athletic Competition - Sky Bet Championship Date - 18 January 2020 Kick off - 3pm Venue - Liberty Stadium Following their hard fought and deserved draw at the Cardiff City Stadium, next up for Steve Cooper’s Swansea squad is a home match against lowly Wigan Athletic. The Swans arrived at the Cardiff City Stadium with a chance to claim the first league double in 108 years of this fixture. But they had to be content with a share of the spoils in a game which was long on endeavour but short on quality. The woodwork rattled twice, with Bersant Celina hitting the post for Swansea before Cardiff's Callum Paterson headed against the bar late on. But a stalemate was probably the right result on a day when both sides had their moments but neither could conjure the sort of moment of quality required to break the deadlock. The day before, Jamie Paterson marked his Bristol City return with a goal and an assist as the wobbling promotion hopefuls battled to victory at lowly Wigan Athletic. Paterson, making his first appearance since being recalled from a loan spell with Derby County, poked City in front just as a drab contest looked to be drifting towards a goalless draw. He then turned provider two minutes later, lifting a clever pass through for Famara Diedhiou to brilliantly slot first time past goalkeeper David Marshall. The two quickfire goals were enough to arrest a sequence of five defeats in six matches for Lee Johnson's side, who had risen to fourth after winning at Fulham at the start of December. Meanwhile, the result stretched Wigan's winless run at home to seven games and left them 23rd, just two points above bottom-placed Luton Town. The Swans have played Wigan on 25 occasions, with the Swans having won 10, lost 10 and 5 draws. In the reverse fixture in November, the Swans ran out 2-1 victors. Turning to Saturday, this is a golden opportunity for the Swans to maintain their play-off charge, and I’m going for a 3-1 home win

The Isle of Wight official is taking charge of Swansea for the second time this season, having had the whistle for the home defeat to Nottingham Forest in September. Linington also took charge of four Swans games at the Liberty last season, overseeing wins against Preston and Stoke, a draw against Wigan and defeat against West Brom. Linington has over a decade of experience in the EFL and will be assisted by Sam Lewis and Mark Pottage. Timothy Wood is the fourth official. * - this is the ref involved in the Scunthorpe Carling Cup fiasco in 2009 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/league_cup/8205360.stm
With the new signings which must have given a lift to the Squad ( unless you're the one out on your ear) I'm really looking forward to this game ,will it be "When Saturday Comes" full of promise or "Saturday Night Sunday Morning" doom and gloom
We are home .................... - ..................................... so it`s got to be an away win!
Very true and that's why I usually err on the cynical side But if I don't get hyped and delude myself just occasionally then I'll become suicidal. Happy New Year!
Hope we win by any bloody score, 6-0. Would be not bad. ...... See that an old player of ours, namely a Mr. MAWSON is doing very well now, notice that he has been dropped to the bench by Fulham tonight against Middlesbrough.
