Competition - Sky Bet Championship Venue - Swansea.com Stadium Date - 9 April 2025 Kick off - 7:45pm Following their hard fought but deserved home victory over a battling Derby side, next up for Alan Sheehan’s Swansea squad is a home fixture against bottom of the table Plymouth and a chance to claim the 3pts that are (possibly/probably) required to ‘guarantee’ Championship football for next season. Last Saturday, substitute Eom struck a late winner as Swansea City ground out victory over Derby County at the Swansea.com Stadium. The South Korea international snuck in at the far post to meet an inswinging cross with 11 minutes to play, settling a contest that was often a tense, cagey affair. There was no doubting the effort levels on display in a game between two sides who knew a win would move them considerably closer to securing Championship status for next term, but a lack of patience and composure in the final third ensured there was little in the way of clear-cut chances. But the hosts made sure they claimed an 11th clean sheet of the season, and Eom made no mistake when given the chance to net his second Swansea goal. Whilst the Swans were beating the Rams, Ryan Hardie was scoring twice as Plymouth Argyle beat Norwich City 2-1 to close the Pilgrims' gap to Championship safety. The win - Argyle's second in nine games - saw bottom-of-the-table Plymouth four points from safety with six games to play, but dealt a blow to Norwich's outside hopes of making the play-offs. Hardie gave the hosts the lead against the run of play as he coolly finished with his left foot past Angus Gunn. The Scot doubled the lead three minutes later as he curled in from 10 yards after a loose ball fell to him in the box. Josh Sargent needed just 44 seconds of the second half to pull a goal back as he blasted past Conor Hazard. Hardie should have completed his hat-trick, but he just failed to connect with an 86th-minute Mustapha Bundu cross from the left. But the Canaries could not find an equaliser as they drop to 11th place, eight points off the final play-off spots. The Swans have played Plymouth on 87 previous occasions, winning 36, losing 33 and drawing 18. In last season’s corresponding fixture Plymouth ran out 0-1 winners: Turning to tomorrow evening, I think the Swans will win 2-1 and move onto 51pts which will surely be enough to guarantee safety.
Cheers Taff. I can see this one being a draw. We were fortunate to beat Derby really and I think Plymouth might come with same intensity Derby had. A win would certainly be welcome to calm the end of season nerves though.
Right Jacks, another 3 points tonight to at least keep Plymouth off our tail. Can't believe I'm wanting the Swans to win - again. Thanks in advance.
I’m not getting up at 3am to watch this so I’ll be dreaming of 3 points instead. I think it will be a draw though. Hope I’m wrong and we get another 3-0 victory.
Looks like the game plan is to go for it tonight and get those three points out of the way. Good stuff.
We are on 51 points and up to 14th, passing the 50 points barrier, should cheer up our Taffy boy!.....
