Swansea City v Peterborough United Competition - Sky Bet Championship Venue - Swansea.com stadium Date - 30 October 2021 Kick off - 3pm Following their disappointing 1-2 reverse away at Birmingham City, next up for Russell Martin’s Swansea squad is a home match against Peterborough United. Last Saturday, Troy Deeney scored one goal and created another as Birmingham beat the Swans 2-1 to end their seven-game winless streak. The recalled Deeney was handed the captain's armband and repaid boss Lee Bowyer with a clinical opener. Swansea thought they had earned a point when Michael Obafemi swept in his first goal for the club. However, Bowyer's side deservedly won it as Riley McGree tapped home at the second attempt after Deeney's pass. The Swans had gone into the match on the back of momentum gaining from excellent victories over Cardiff and West Brom. However, it was a forgettable afternoon for a Swansea side that failed to hit the heights of their 2 previous displays. As a consequence, Russell Martin's team stay 15th, with Birmingham a point and two places worse off. Whilst the Swans were losing 1-2, Peterborough were winning by the same score with Siriki Dembele snatching an injury-time winner as Peterborough registered back-to-back victories for the first time this season. Ilias Chair had put QPR ahead directly from a corner early in the second half, only for teenager Harrison Burrows to score Posh's equaliser. The home side created the better chances and finally gained their reward a minute into added time when Dembele squeezed his finish past Seny Dieng. It was Rangers' fourth consecutive away defeat and nudged them out of the top six, while Peterborough remain in 20th place. The Swans and Posh have played each other on 45 previous occasions, the Swans winning 15, losing 16 with 14 drawn. The teams last met in the Championship at the (as it was then called) Liberty Stadium in February 2010, when the Swans ran out 1-0 winners thanks to a 19th David Cotterill penalty. The most recent meeting between the teams was a League Cup match in August 2016 when the Swans ran out 3-1 winners at Peterborough thanks to a Jay Fulton goal and a brace from Ollie McBurnie: Turning to Saturday, I’m expecting that the Swans will get the show back on the road and secure their 4th consecutive home victory in the Championship by running out 2-1 winners (Although, wearing my prediction hat, 2-0 to the Posh wouldn’t be too bad a result ….. Only joking lads )
Thanks Taff...haven’t got a great record against the Posh but going for a 2 nil win to us......why not,
I think they'll get a consolation goal but the Swans to score a couple or three. I want to see a reaction after the Brum defeat.
3-0 to the Swans. I see Dai Cornell is the 1st choice goalkeeper for Peterborough. Due to Chris Maxwell being out with injury at Blackpool, Cornell is now the only Welsh goalkeeper playing regular 1st team football in the EFL/Premier League, Ward, Hennessey, Davies and King are all on the bench. It'll be interesting to see how he performs, he can't be any worse than our current Welsh no1 who hasn't played a league game since May 2017.
Cornell was on the bench for the Swans when we beat Peterborough 1-0 the last time the 2 teams met in the Championship at the Liberty in 2010.
