Swansea City v Millwall Competition - Sky Bet Championship Venue - Swansea.com Stadium Date - 16 August 2022 Kick off - 7:45pm Following their success at Blackpool, next up for Russell Martin’s Swansea squad is a home match against Millwall. Last Saturday, the Swans claimed a first win of the season as Olivier Ntcham struck with a late breakaway goal at Blackpool. The Swans had the better of a goalless first half, with Ben Cabango missing the best of their many chances. Blackpool were awarded a dubious penalty when Harry Darling was adjudged to have fouled Kenny Dougall, but Andy Fisher saved from Jerry Yates. The Swans’ Michael Obafemi wasted a glorious chance as he blazed over from six yards but made amends by setting up Ntcham for an 87th-minute tap-in. Despite Blackpool's penalty miss, the Swans created enough chances to win two games so, when substitute Ntcham finally converted one, the overriding emotion would have been one of relief after a much-improved performance. Whilst the Swans were winning in Blackpool, Millwall were coming from 2-0 down to win a five-goal thriller at The Den - and continue Coventry City's winless start to the new campaign. City led after just two minutes through Kyle McFadzean, and then doubled their lead on 28 minutes thanks to Matt Godden. But Jake Cooper got one back for Gary Rowett's Lions nine minutes before the break and George Honeyman levelled seven minutes after the restart. The Sky Blues then had to play a man short for the final half hour after Gustavo Hamer's red card reduced the visitors to 10 men - and Millwall capitalised when George Saville hit an 85th-minute winner. The Swans have played the Lions on 54 previous occasions, winning 23, losing 19 and drawing 12. In the corresponding match last season, the teams played out a 0-0 draw: Turning to Tuesday evening, I wouldn’t be surprised if there were to be another drawn match, 1-1
Surrey-based official Gavin Ward will be the man in the middle when Swansea City host Millwall at the Swansea.com Stadium for their first midweek home match of the season. Ward officiated his first EFL game back in August 2008, when he took charge of the League One encounter between MK Dons and Northampton Town. He has since gone on to be the lead official in more than 200 Championship, League One and League Two matches. Ward was appointed to the National List of Referees ahead of the 2018/19 season after over 10 years as an EFL referee in League One and League Two. During that time, he took charge of the 2017-18 EFL Trophy Final between Shrewsbury Town and Lincoln City, as well as being the fourth official for the FA Vase final in 2011. Tuesday evening’s encounter will be Ward’s 10th occasion officiating a Swansea City home fixture. The last occasion came in September 2021 where the Swans came out victorious 1-0 against Carlos Corberan’s Huddersfield Town. He will be assisted by Mark Russell and Greg Read. Ollie Yates will be the fourth official.
Thanks Taff. I too wouldn't be surprised if it was 1-1 but let's be positive and go for a 2-0 win with Piroe and Obafemi to score
We (wife, daughter, 6 year old grandson and yours truly) waited at least 20 minutes before anyone deigned to come to the table despite my wife asking twice. When someone did finally come, I said (politely) in Spanish “at last, we’ve been waiting 20 minutes” No reaction from her, but she spoke with a waiter when she went to the bar. The drinks arrived - all fine, then the waiter came, ostensibly to lay place mats, but decided to wash my area, in so doing blocked my drink from sight: all of a sudden there was movement in the glass … I / we didn’t see it actually happen, but it wasn’t there previously, and given the size, I wouldn’t have missed it ……
When someone did finally come, I said (politely) in Spanish “at last, we’ve been waiting 20 minutes” Ray would be proud of you
On the plane, scheduled to take off in 10 minutes - subject to 2 passengers who are yet to turn up ….. Hopefully, we will be 3 points to the good when we land in Cardiff
