Swansea v Luton Competition - Sky Bet Championship Venue - Swansea.com Stadium Date - 29 December 2024 Kick off - 3pm Following their emphatic 3-0 home victory over in-form QPR, next up for Luke Williams’ Swansea squad is another home festive fixture, this time against Luton Town. On Boxing Day, QPR’S seven-game unbeaten run came to an end in Wales, with the Swans running out 3-0 winners in this one. After such impressive recent results and performances, this was certainly a disappointing one for QPR who struggled to recover following an excellent start by the hosts. Two goals from Liam Cullen and a third from Gonçalo Franco before the break put the Swans in control. Despite a much-improved display in the second half by QPR, the mountain to climb was too big for the London side. Whilst the Swans were beating QPR, Bristol City were ending a four-game winless run as they beat fellow mid-table side Luton Town 1-0. A low-entertainment game was brought to life soon after half-time as Scott Twine blasted into the top corner from the edge of the box to score what proved to be the winner. Sam Bell had a second goal for City disallowed for offside after an hour as the hosts began to get the upper hand. Both sides had penalty claims waved away before Carlton Morris headed Luton's best chance over the bar from six yards with 10 minutes to go. The win lifts the Robins up to 11th (1 place below the Swans) having been victorious in back-to-back Boxing Day matches for the first time in a decade after victory over Watford the day after Christmas 12 months ago. The Swans have played the Hatters on 59 previous occasions, winning 21, drawing 13 and losing 25. In fact, the Swans are actually winless in their last five matches against Luton, suffering three defeats in the process, although the pair played out a 1-1 draw when they met at Kenilworth Road in the reverse fixture earlier this month in a match that the Swans should probably have won. In the corresponding fixture 2 seasons ago, Luton (in their promotion season) ran out 0-2 winners: Turning to tomorrow, in many respects this is a match that the Swans ‘must’ win if they are to mount a charge for a Play-Off place. However, it must be recognised that the Swans have underwhelmed on home soil this season, winning four, drawing four and losing three of their 11 matches to collect 16 points, but they will be welcoming a Luton outfit with the third-worst away record. Indeed, the Hatters have only won one of their 11 Championship matches away from their own stadium this season, suffering nine defeats in the process, which is a record that will hand the hosts confidence. On balance, I think that the Swans should win, but I’ve a feeling that we will see another 1-1 draw between the two teams.
I hope this isn't going to be one of those days.... we've had some decent chances and gifted a pathetic goal.
