Swansea City v Brentford Competition - Sky Bet Championship, Play-Off Semi-Final, 1st Leg Venue - Liberty Stadium Date - 26 July 2020 Kick off - 18.30 Following their outstanding 4-1 away victory at Reading, coupled with Forest’s 1-4 implosion at home to Stoke City, Steve Cooper’s Swansea squad qualified for the Championship Play-Offs and will face Brentford in the semi-final. Against Reading, the Swans dominated completely and took the lead following a Rhian Brewster thunderbolt - one which Bobby Charlton would have been only too happy to claim! With the score tied at 1-1 at HT, Cooper brought on Swans’ stalwart Wayne Routledge who put the Swans in front again. That was followed by a first League goal for Liam Cullen - a goal that hinted that the ‘miracle’ was on. Then, in injury-time, that man Routledge popped up to score the goal that moved the Swans into a Play-Off spot .... but Forest were still playing and another goal could have changed it all: there was to be another goal at the City Ground but it was scored by Stoke as Forest were caught short at the back. At the same time, Brentford were surprisingly losing 1-2 at home to Barnsley, thereby blowing their chance of securing automatic promotion. I wonder if, psychologically, this could have a negative impact on The Bees. This is not the first time that the Swans and the Bees have met in a play-off semi-final: 14 years ago in 2006, the teams met in the League One play-off semi-final, which saw the Swans triumph 3-1 on aggregate - sealing a final spot courtesy of 2 Leon Knight goals in the second leg at Griffin Park, following a 1-1 draw in the first leg. Turning to Sunday evening, I’m hoping that the momentum, that the Swans have, will continue and I’m going for a 2-0 home win. ‘Enjoy’ the match
A fortnight ago I would have given us no hope against Brentford, but they have slipped up recently and not playing well, so I’m in an optimistic mood. So I’m going for a 2-0 win.
Thanks for the preview Taff. Realistically Brentford have had their peak and I think are now somewhat in free fall a bit like Lids last season. As long as we turn up again we could turn them over by at least 3 goals in the first leg
Piezo excelente Taff. Ivor Adams would be proud of your construction It’s 2-1 for me. I hope we put on a good show.
Thanks Glam. There were a couple of photos recently on Facebook of the teaching staff - Ivor was there. He also taught my late father - I’ve a photo of the School cricket team, with Ivor as the ‘coach’ and my Dad and Ron Trimnell in the team.
