SWANSEA CITY are keeping tabs on want-away Bristol City star Nicky Maynard.

Striker Maynard is set to quit Ashton Gate after failing to agree a new deal at the Championship side.

And it is thought Swans boss Brendan Rodgers is monitoring the situation as he weighs up his transfer options in the next month.

Maynard, 25, long regarded as one of the top marksmen in the second tier, is already attracting interest from top-flight clubs as he prepares to become a free agent in the summer.

Wolves are the latest to be linked with the eight-goal frontman, although Robins boss Derek McInnes has stressed there have been no formal bids for the player.

Although rated at £4m, his contract situation could see him available on the cheap – with a part-exchange a possibility.

Rodgers, who has already brought in Darnel Situ, Rory Donnelly and Gylfi Sigurdsson in recent days, has suggested he is only in the market for one player, likely to be a midfielder.

But if Maynard remains a possibility, it could tempt the Northern Irishman into a move to bolster his forward options.

Rodgers could face a fight to hold onto his own stars during this window with Ashley Williams and Neil Taylor reportedly interesting Newcastle and Arsenal.

But he said: “I’m sure there will be a raft of players linked to clubs in the coming weeks, but we want to keep our best players.”

Know it's not QPR related, but it bloody well should!

We have all seen that the likes of Helguson, Morrison, Holt and Graham can score in the Premier League. Then why not give at try with Maynard?

Surely this is a no brainer. His contract is up in the summer, meaning a low transfer fee compared to the quality and also his wages will be a lot lower than for instance AJ. At least he's hungry compared to the bench warmers we're linked to.

If we sign him and, god forbid, everything go tits up and we're relegated, he'll be our 20 goal a season striker and he'll fire us straight back up. This is the kind of signings the likes of WBA have been doing over the years, it takes time to build a club and a team.

    Thoughts please.

I think he'd be a good bet too.

Apart from 2 CB's and cover at LB, what I think we need most is a quick, strong box to box midfield player, who can get back and help us defensively, and shoot. Livermore perhaps?

Ageed Oslo but I think Swansea have already beat us to a great option in Gylfi Sigurdsson, IMO this is will become the best piece of business in January.
