Whilst I know you are being sarcastic (my kind of humour lol) we mustn't forget that Green Bay Packers are now one of the biggest names in all of sport. This will be sports news in America because of Green Bay's involvement, and Swansea City will get mentioned in the articles. Exposure is nice, however little it may be. But I tell everyone, we have so, so, so, so much to learn from the Americans as far as the supporter experience goes. Unlike most British tourists I did the best possible thing a sports fan could do when holidaying in the United States, I went to watch the Miami Dolphins when in Florida for a christmas season theme in Disney and the next time I went to Disney it was summer. Just a smallish $100 dollar return ticket to Texas for NASCAR!! Those yanks put on one hell of a show for the crowd, NASCAR was much better than the NFL experience but even so the NFL experience was on a completely different planet compared to what we get here in the UK and footbal. I have never seen a sporting culture put so much effort into a sporting event that is the equivalent of a single Premier League match. I could have actually done a few laps around the track in one of the actual NASCAR Stock Cars that would be racing that same day if I was willing (or able to afford) to spend the $150 dollars extra and booked early enough. Fireworks displays at both the NASCAR and NFL event, the movies are telling the truth, there are staff coming around with food and drink... but they didn't throw it to me lol. I highly recommend you give the Americans a try if or when you go there for a holiday, it is just one day of your holiday and it costs the same for the return plane flight as it would to go to an away match here in your car.
"Curly Lambeau, the team's founder, solicited funds for uniforms from his employer, the Indian Packing Company. He was given $500 for uniforms and equipment, on condition that the team be named for its sponsor (a similar event would occur the following year with the Decatur Staleys, who later became the Chicago Bears). An early newspaper article referred to the new Green Bay team as "the Indians" but by the time they played their first game they had adopted the name "Packers." Ok, so far so good, but what did the Indian Packing Company pack? "The Indian Packing Company was a company that was involved in the canned meat industry and was organized in Delaware on July 22, 1919.[1] Its canned meat sold as "Council Meats." When the company was absorbed by the Illinois-based Acme Packing Company in 1921, it had facilities in Green Bay, Wisconsin; Providence, Rhode Island; Greenwood, Indiana; and Dupont, Indiana[2][3] At the time of the sale it was controlled by New England Supply Company of Providence, Rhode Island with F.P Comstock as its principal owner.[4] Among its slogans were “A meat market on your pantry shelf” and “From the Wisconsin country to you.”[5] Today, the company is remembered as the namesake of the Green Bay Packers. The fledgling football team took its name after Curly Lambeau, a shipping clerk for the company, who successfully asked the company for money for jerseys and use of the company's athletic field in 1919." If anyone gets onto 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' and this is the one million pound question, you owe me big time
My life's much richer for having found out I wasn't deliberately deflecting from the OP which was a good find by Samuel L Jackson and I'm sure Huw will have a nice time on the edge of Lake ...? Damn, I'll have to look that one up now.
It's at the southern end of an arm of Lake Michigan unlike Milwaukee and Chicago which are on the 'main lake'. Huw, you may need your SATNAV!
Cancel the flight Huw! The FA’s National Football Centre, St George’s Park is in Burton-on-Trent! OK, we've now established that: a) the Supporters Summit 2013 is in Burton-on-Trent and not Green Bay, Wisconsin b) Green Bay is on Lake Michigan c) Why The Packers are called The Packers Anything else?
I do fancy going to see what's said. Anybody else going? Oh If Dai say's he going then I'm busy that day.
At the risk of certain people bursting into laughter I can't go because on that day we have a mystery trip being run in work. Roughly translated, we are going on a coach on a pub crawl somewhere around South Wales.
FAO Neveroff, Have you seen the Southern Comfort advert on the TV ? The one with that fat bastard walking on the beach. Doesn't that bloke look like FFS ?
Lol... they are one the top ten most valuable teams in NFL, and have the lowest debt/value ratios in their league. They are pretty big and just like the Swans, they are partially community owned by fans. They are the Swansea City FC of the American sports world.
