    Swansea v WBA

    Competition - Sky Bet Championship
    Venue - Swansea.com Stadium
    Date - 8 May 2023
    Kick off - 3:00pm

Following their 1-1 draw at Hull, a result that finally extinguished their faint hopes of a Play-Off place, next up for Russell Martin’s Swansea squad is the final match of a somewhat inconsistent season, a home fixture against West Brom who still harbour hopes of a Play-Off spot.

Last Saturday, the Swans came from behind to earn a point as Luke Cundle's measured finish cancelled out Ben Cabango's early own goal.

However, despite stretching their unbeaten run to eight games, Russell Martin's team cannot now finish in the top six.

They climb to 10th, but are five points short of sixth-placed Millwall with only one game remaining.

It has been a great late-season run for the Swans, who were 15 points adrift of the play-off spots and in miserable form in the middle of March.

A mid-table finish now beckons, as it does for 14th-placed Hull, who have lost only two of their last 10 games.

Whilst the Swans were drawing at Hull, Jed Wallace was scoring West Brom's winner as they beat Norwich 2-1 to ensure that they go into the final day of the Championship season with a chance of securing a Play-Off place.

The Baggies came from behind after Josh Sargent had scored a superb opening goal that momentarily revived Norwich's own flickering chances of sneaking into the top six.

Conor Townsend levelled with a brilliant curling free-kick before setting up the vital Wallace strike in the second half.

To secure a Play-Off place, West Brom need either Coventry to lose or Millwall to fail to win on what promises to be a tense final day, while they travel to Swansea knowing that nothing less than three points will give them a chance.

Since (and including) their first meeting in October 1927, the Swans have played the Baggies on 48 occasions, winning 21, losing 17 with 10 matches drawn.

In the corresponding fixture last season, the Swans came from behind to run out 2-1 winners:

Turning to Monday, and recognising that West Brom will come here to attack, knowing that only a win will do, and given that the Swans will want to finish with a flourish in front of the Jack Army, I can see nothing other than a 5-4 win for the Swans …. <whistle>

More importantly, that result would mean that Glam and 55 share the Prediction Trophy for this season … <badger><badger><badger><laugh><laugh><laugh>

Thanks Taff not only for this one but for your sterling efforts throughout the season which have been very much appreciated.

A 5-4 scoreline would indeed be entertaining but I can't see WBA coming to play in that style. So it's a 2-1 win to the Swans for me.

Yep, cheers Taff <cheers> It's been a slog at times!

With all the best will in the world, I can only really see West Brom winning this. They will be going all out for the win and our players, despite how RM might try to fire them up, will not be fired up! Maybe even a little deflated after the draw last week and not being in the hunt on the final day.

Anyway, let's hope we do turn up and give the fans a great final day and I'll go 2 - 2

Taff, you come to serve and not be served.

Your duty towards the realm and this board has no bounds, and is beyond the call of duty.

God save King Taffvalerowdy! Hurrah, hurrah!

I'm not sure how you keep it up to be honest. Even on holiday, fighting off Tenerife jumping spiders, the match day thread appears without fail. We applaud your efforts.<applause>
