Swansea City v Stoke City Competition - Sky Bet Championship Date - 9 April 2019 Kick off - 7.45pm Venue - Liberty Stadium Following their emphatic 3-1 victory over Middlesbrough, next up for Graham Potter’s Swansea squad is a home match against Stoke City. The Swans produced another top-drawer performance to beat Boro and maintain their (very) faint Championship play-offs hopes. They comprehensively outplayed Middlesbrough to consign them to a sixth successive defeat and increase the scrutiny on manager Tony Pulis. The Swans played wonderful attacking football in the first half, overwhelming their opponents with their pace and movement to lead 2-0 thanks to Matt Grimes' penalty and Wayne Routledge's neat low finish. The second half was a stroll for the hosts, who added a third as Bersant Celina's artfully disguised cross to the back post was volleyed in by Connor Roberts, rendering George Saville's late volley for Boro academic. Whilst the Swans were demolishing Boro, Peter Etebo scored the first goal that Stoke have managed since top-scorer Benik Afobe found the net for their second goal in a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on 2 March. But things would be helped if Stoke could take a penalty. On the stroke of half-time, City missed the chance to double their lead when Benik Afobe was brought down in the box but Bojan Krkic's penalty was saved. Krkic became the latest spot-kick culprit at Ewood Park to continue his side's shambolic run. They have now missed 10 of their past 13 penalties. Turning to Tuesday evening, I’m hoping that the Swans will continue their fine form and will win 2-0. That said, returning former Swans usually do well against us, and Stoke may well have 3 in their line up, Clucas, Ash & Joey. Knowing our luck, each will score and we will lose 3-2
I am with Taff on this one even though we gave away another set piece goal on Saturday. 2-0 to flying Swans
Never mind three games in a week, Taff has done three matchday threads in a week! Well done Taff! I’ve just got a feeling this is going to be 1-1. On paper Stoke have a good team, but they haven’t been performing this season. A few ex-Jacks may raise their game for this one.
We seem to be scoring more freely without McBurnie at the moment, so I kinda hope he's only on the bench.
3 - 1 home win.......TBH i think now we are safe that Potts should experiment a bit and introduce U23 & U21 players to first team football....You never know we might be needing them...
Some interesting stats... Swansea have won only one of their last seven league meetings with Stoke (W1 D1 L5), beating them 2-0 in April 2017. Swansea have not won three consecutive league games since their final three matches of the 2016-17 Premier League season. Stoke have not conceded a league goal for six matches and 568 minutes - a clean sheet here will equal their longest run of league matches without conceding (seven in November/December 2006). But we are playing very well at the mo, so...
Ash - I will show Swans and Wales what they are missing........Sorry Ash you were the one who wanted to join Everton you was not pushed......You reap what you sew as there wont be many fans that are missing you.....
