Competition - FA Cup, Round 6 Date - 16 March 2019 Kick off - 5.20 pm Venue - Liberty Stadium Following their hard fought but ultimately deserved defeat in the Championship at the hands of play-off chasing West Brom, next up for Graham Potter and his squad is a home FA Cup match against Premier League Champions, Manchester City. Managerless West Bromwich Albion rode their luck as they beat Graham Potter's Swansea City to claim their first home league win since Boxing Day. But, in their first game since the sacking of head coach Darren Moore, it will be remembered for an astonishing first-half penalty miss by Swansea's Bersant Celina. The former Manchester City youngster made such a dreadful connection with his attempted chipped 40th-minute spot-kick that the ball almost went backwards. By then, recalled captain Chris Brunt had already put Albion ahead with a low left-foot cross from a free-kick, which eluded all the bodies in the six-yard box and sneaked inside Kristoffer Nordfeldt's right post. It was from Brunt's inswinging corner that Albion scored the second on 54 minutes - before top scorer Jay Rodriguez settled it with a late third, his 18th goal of the season. That was rough luck on Swansea, who were the better team for much of the first hour and were denied by a string of fine saves from home keeper Sam Johnstone. The night before the Swans lost at the Hawthorns, Manchester City thrashed Schalke in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie to confirm their passage to the quarter-finals. Sergio Aguero opened the scoring from the spot and added a second three minutes later when Raheem Sterling's backheel set him up from six yards. Leroy Sane drilled in the third and picked up a hat-trick of assists after the break as City ran riot. Sterling, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden and Gabriel Jesus also scored. After slotting into the far corner in the first half, Sane set up Sterling with a wonderful curling cross that the England forward smashed into the top corner. Silva pounced on Sane's cut-back to make it 5-0 before substitute Foden rounded the goalkeeper after he was played in by the German winger. Jesus made sure he had a slice of the pie with a late curling strike. Turning to Saturday, the question is will Wales score more points than Man City will score goals....
Love the write up Taff. Thanks as always. Did not realise The Throstles had not won at home since Boxing Day. Anyway......3-0 Citeh.
If Man City can score 7 against a top German Champions League team, they can score as many as they want against us. Can we sneak a surprise win? I don’t think we can. Wigan beat 10 man Man City in the cup last season and Guardiola will be making sure there are no slip ups against lower league opposition this year. So it’s a question of hope. I hope we don’t get mauled. In our favour we can retain possession and that will be our only defence. Prediction: Swans 0 Man City 3
Best way to play City is defend narrow & hit us on the break with pace Our full backs are not great defensively
After the disappointment of this weeks games I have to admit to lowering my expectations , a tight 2-1 defeat
Our defence isn't a defence really. VD Hoorn is a total liability when he's anywhere near the ball. If Man City want 10 - they can probably score 10. I just hope it's not embarrassing. The best we can hope for is keeping the game alive for as long as possible. If we are 2 down inside the first 15 mins then it could well be a full on mauling.
Can we expect Man City to put out a strong team or a slightly less strong team? Either way they should cruise this game. Just have to hope for the planets to align and somehow we get a result. I used to have that much hope
Common sense, coupled with reality, dictates a very comfortable win for Man. City. However, in the Cup tournaments, David occasionally topples Goliath, so who knows ? Regardless of the score line, the real winners will be the American owners who are assured of a bumper pay day. Good for them, they deserve to reap the rewards for purchasing the Club.
