Swansea v Watford Competition - Sky Bet Championship Venue - Swansea.com Stadium Date - 24 October 2023 Kick off - 7:45pm Following their 1-3 home defeat to ‘Champions-Presumptive’ Leicester City, next up for Michael Duff’s Swansea squad is a home match against Watford. Last Saturday, Leicester became the first side in the history of the English second tier to win their first six away league games of a season as they came from behind to beat Swansea City. Swansea threatened to upset the Championship leaders as they took a first-half lead thanks to Matt Grimes' volley. But Leicester deservedly levelled when Jannik Vestergaard bundled home his first goal for the club. Swansea almost went ahead again before the break when Liam Cullen's thumping drive rattled the crossbar. But Leicester's blend of athleticism and quality continued to cause problems after the break and teenager Abdul Fatawu found time and space to sweep in his first Foxes goal. Swansea threatened to find an equaliser with Jamal Lowe going close, but their comeback hopes ended when substitute Kelechi Iheancacho broke clear and touched the ball home. This was a seventh successive Championship victory for Leicester, who have won 11 of their 12 league games following relegation from the Premier League last season. They extend their advantage at the top of the table to five points, after second-placed Ipswich's game at Rotherham was postponed on Friday, and they are the 11 clear of third-placed Leeds. Swansea drop from mid-table to 17th having seen their four-game winning streak come to an end, though they are only four points outside the top six. Whilst the Swans were losing to Leicester, Watford substitute Yaser Asprilla snatched a late winner to deny Danny Rohl a point in his first game as Sheffield Wednesday boss. The Colombian teenager had only been on the pitch for four minutes when he cut in from the right and rifled his finish across Cameron Dawson. Dawson had barely been tested up to that point, with the visitors largely keeping Watford at bay and creating the better chances. But Wednesday remain bottom of the Championship table and winless this season, while Watford's first victory in six games lifts them to 19th place. The Swans have played Watford on 53 previous occasions winning 25, losing 18 and drawing 10. In the corresponding fixture last season, the Swans ran out comfortable 4-0 victors: Turning to Tuesday evening, I expect that the Swans will bounce back from last Saturday’s defeat and will run out comfortable 3-1 winners.
Cheers Taff. My Watford contact says they are abysmal this season. The 1 - 0 win at Wednesday isn't that impressive either, considering how bad Wednesday are. So a home win! Scoreline's a guess, so 2 - 0.
Andrew Kitchen will be the man in the middle when Swansea City host Watford at the Swansea.com Stadium on Tuesday evening (7.45pm). Tuesday’s match will mark Kitchen’s third Championship outing after taking charge of League One and League Two matches since his promotion to the National List of Referees in the summer of 2021. His first second-tier fixture was Swansea’s draw at Queens Park Rangers, and he has since taken charge of Plymouth’s 6-2 win over Norwich. After a successful 2022-23 campaign, Kitchen was awarded one of the legs of the League One play-off semi-final clash between Bolton Wanderers and Barnsley, which ended in a draw. Last season, he took charge of 33 matches handing out 80 yellow cards and three reds. Kitchen will be assisted by Mark Stevens and Craig Taylor. Josh Smith will be the fourth official.
You could see we were a player short on the their left flank, said to the wife watch them score here. We look clueless at times.
Well, that was my first game of the season at the Liberty, and it will be my last, I shall just watch it on the box as usual, because watching **** football on the box costs me nothing, that was the worst Watford team I have seen in years, and we managed to make them look good, where do I start? passes going astray all game, sideways and backwards football, our left back had most of the ball all game, such was our strategy not. Grimes for me summed up this game at 80+ minutes when he strolled to the corner flag as if he had all the time in the world with three goals in the bag, such a disgraceful attitude for a captain, sadly I think he's far from captain material, when we had the goal disallowed, for reasons that I couldn't fathom, I thought well at least they are going for it at last, maybe a draw would be fair for two **** teams, but no the Swans had other ideas, and at 85 minutes for the first time ever in my life at a game, I got up and walked out saying loudly enough for all to hear, " that's it I can not watch a minute more of this **** football" and out I went. No wonder there are so many empty seats.
