If it were a normal Saturday I'd have this down for an away win all day long. They've lost their way after a good start to the season, they don't look as strong as last year and we look much improved. In their favour is the Laudrup effect - if he's half the manager he was a player then it'll be happy days for Swansea. Just the fact that they've changed their manager might help them to avoid that second season thing. Everyone thinks they had a great season last time out and we had a terrible one - but we finished four points behind them, and they took four points off us - so we have pretty much an identical record apart form our games against each other. Anyway, Laudrup seems to be working out better for them than Hughton is for Norwich, and with Southampton and Reading looking so poor too maybe both us and Swansea might have a chance of avoiding too much of a relegation scrap.

But it's not a normal Saturday, it's the Saturday after an international break and gawd alone knows which Wigan will show up. According to Physio Room it's only Alcaraz who continues to be a doubt and we may see him getting used, simply because Figueroa and Caldwell might be tired. As will Maloney, McCarthy and McArthur which might means (gulp) a run out for that useless twerp Gomez. I can just imagine Bobby thinking that this is a match - against an old club - where he might raise his game. I'd just remind everyone that we haven't picked up a point from a match he's started this time out. In spite of the "he's better than he used to be - he came from a pretty low starting point, and we still don't get anything when he plays.

I'd settle for a point. If Wigan turn up like they did against Everton then I would expect a win though. Although this time Bobby, if we go a goal up please let's go for the killer rather than trying to see it out eh?

Come on HP stop having a pop at Gomez sure he`s not our strongest player on the pitch but if there is such i thing as 100% Gomez then that's what he brings it may not be 100% DI Santo or kone or Maloney but he do`s what he can has. Far the game is concerned the jacks need a win without one in 6 witch for them is one i cant really believe with them being such a strong team sense and conviction but like you say HP if we turn up for the game after the international lay off and with us being 15th and them being 11th and lawro going for a 1-1 draw at the Liberty Stadium who knows what will happen

Sorry Fromthe, but he's out of his depth at this level and is a liability every time he plays! He doesn't so much "make mistakes" as "not contribute". He's started two games this season against Sunderland and Fulham - both losses aand you know what the performance was like against Fulham. I'm not going to blame him for the loss against MAnu but he came on for the last hafl hour and we looked much worse.

He has played 70 games for us and there is no way he merits that number of appearances. Our points per game ratio when he plays is much worse than when he doesn't. When he comes on as a sub our results worsen - so we go from win to draw, or draw to loss - almost every single time.

I've never been one to call for Bobby to move on - not once. But he has a real stubborn blind spot when it comes to Gomez.

And this is just a football forum where fans can express their opinions - and mine is that Wigan Athletic are a much less threatening proposition when we play Gomez than when we don't.
