Swansea assistant Colin Pascoe says QPRâs stars need to start performing Swansea City assistant Colin Pascoe feels Rangers' star players are underperforming âBig name QPR players need to start performing for Hughesâ Tuesday, April 10, 2012 9:08 AM Swansea assistant Colin Pascoe says QPRâs stars need to start performing .. Swansea assistant manager Colin Pascoe thinks that it is about time the big-money signings at QPR started to produce the goods for manager Mark Hughes. Pascoe is a former team-mate of the Rangers chief and speaking ahead of Wednesday nightâs clash between the two sides at Loftus Road, the former Wales international was keen to remind the west Londoners that the pressure is firmly on them. âThey need to win, they are at home and have to take the initiative,â he said. âThey are looking to us as a chance to get three points, they have some big teams left to play and they will want to get at us and press us. They will be psyching themselves up as they want to stay in the Premier League. âThey have some big characters, big players on big money and they need to produce. âWhat they did in the Championship last year is gone. This is a different kettle of fish in the Premier League and those big players need to play for Mark Hughes.â
In fairness he said this in a different interview "When you get to the business end of the season everyone gets nervous and anxious because they need the points. "It's going to be tough and we know what we have to do. You do fight harder when you are struggling. You are fighting for survival and you do fight that extra bit. "Every game is tough but come the last five or six games with sides needing points it does become even tougher." Pascoe admits he has been surprised to see last season's Championship winners, who are above the drop zone on goal difference, languishing at the lower end of the table. "I am quite surprised to see them struggling, they played so well last year, and scored a shed full of goals," he said. "They dominated the Championship but things change round in football. It depends on what players you bring in and what players you can keep, as well as things like suspensions. "Unfortunately for QPR they have had a couple of sendings off, that hasn't helped them either but I am surprised they have not done so well so far."
In another Post report with Pascoe as the source (http://www.thisissouthwales.co.uk/S...d-sided-loss/story-15770721-detail/story.html), the following statistics from the Toon game are quoted: - Passes: 909 v 235 (a record - our previous high was 690 against Blackburn, which we also lost) - Final third entries: 115 vs 35 - Penalty box entries: 36 v 13 - Possession: 74% in our favor Clearly, it's not about quantity, it's about quality, and since the score line is the ultimate arbiter, Newcastle had the quality - definitely up front, and steadily / calmly the back (I hope at the back otherwise our offensive efforts look even more anaemic). Some interesting comments attributed in the same article: Pascoe that "Swansea's defeat by Newcastle was an anomaly, a freakish result given the statistics of the game." Pardew that "... despite his team's victory, they found the experience a little soul-destroying ..." - (but ****-it they'll take the three points ). Question: What version of our unique brand of Jekyl and Hyde will walk onto the field on Wed. QPR have people capable of quality (e.g. Taarabt). Do we, and will they show up. Are we passing automatons void of flair, or do we have players that can step outside of our own box once in a while and produce a little magic. We have proven that we can generate copius quantity but of questionable quality. At Fulham we produced both quantity and quality, since then the quality has suffered. The last time we had fixture congestion like this we started Jazz, Dobbie and Orlando across the Spurs and Villa games. Will we see Jazz or Tate at right back, or will Rangel be ready from Friday. I presume that Graham will start over Moore. Sinclair will start, then Dyer or Routledge. Will MacE get a game or perhaps Gower.
Or .... here's another thought, or put another way, are we getting inadvertently lazy with players settling into the quiet comfort of pass domination at the expense (and risk) of stepping outside the box and trying something more individual and direct. And on the original topic ... who cares about QPR .... and what is Pascoe thinking with these comments. Perhaps Hughes as offered him an assistant's job on the side and he's trying to ensure that QPR stay in the Prem to make the move in the close season.
I suspect he was asked and gave an answer. Just like Rodgers is often criticised for mentioning Mourinho, but when you look at the interview he was usually asked 'Who have been your influences?" Btw Perch made Garth Crooks's Team of The Week so those of us who said the Toon were excellent defensively were probably right. (Sorry for sounding like Daiswan )
El Paso should worry about our game and stop the possibility of a 4th straight loss than worrying about his last club qpr's reason why they are going to get relegated or not...
the problem with QPR players is that the big earners know they wont be there if they get relegated next year, they'll move on to some other team who will pay them alot of money based on reputation, not performance. if they get relegated they should be utterly ashamed of themselves, QPR will be screwed if they are relegated with a 183% wage / turnover ratio...
The problem was Warnock dropping the majority of the promotion winning side and replacing them without giving them a chance with a bunch of PL has beens. The team had no time to gel and was thrown in at the deep end, even more so with Cisse, 5 games, 2 red cards.
"QPR will be screwed if they are relegated with a 183% wage / turnover ratio". Then who is to blame for those figures? Difficult to sympathise with them if they do go down.
the people who offer the contracts, in this day and age it is bordering on insanity to sign the likes of cisse, zamora and barton on £3m+ a year contracts, some of which will not contain relegation clauses to reduce wages....add in the likes of wright phillips, ferdinand, young, these players are past it yet they rake in a huge wage, and to think tony fernandes is an astute businessman, and he's sanctioned this, you fear for the clubs future if they go down.
That sort of structure won't be allowed when the new rules come in (not sure when) that will dictate that clubs can only spend what they bring in. Even the bigger clubs will be affected to a degree imo. Those with more sensible fiscal policies like us and Arsenal will hardly notice the difference.
Its ok saying its the fans that suffer but lets be honest, the QPR fans have been screaming for the cheque book to be opened for years !! they now have what they wanted so must take some responsibility if it all falls apart later on! I didnt hear any mutterings from the terraces when they were dismantling the ccc winning team and replacing them with the likes of Ferdinand, wright phillips, barton etc if we had done the same thing like getting rid of Tate, monk, dorus(who left anyway) britton, gower etc then alot of our fans would have gone crazy!! You reap what you sow
I don't care a monkey's uncle what Pascoe has to say, he's clueless half the time, seen enough of his useless coaching with our reserves over the years, and why the hell Rodgers has him as an assistant coach is beyond me, did Martinez?................... As for QPR, I think they might well beat the drop, though I'm not a fan of Hughes, but QPR are an example of how not to run a club!...........
Was Mr Pascoe happy with the way QPRâs stars performed last night?? Maybe Mr Pascoe should shut up, and concentrate on how his stars are not performing! Just a thought Mr Pascoe!................................
