My lad has recently joined the Academy at Swansea, just wanted to say it is brilliant!
Good facilities and great coaches who seem really interested in developing the kids there.

Hopefully he'll get through the next assessment and I won't be on here raging about how bad the academy is! <laugh>

Congratulations!

Really hope the academy brings through some young local talent. Need to get more youngsters involved at an early age to ensure we get life-long supporters (if not talented players!)

Suits us and Welsh football as a whole.

you havnt got an academy dude, its a set up of some kind but its no academy........my cousin is a coach with the under 9`s paul mellish,he`s a good lad and will give his all 2 get the kids playing the best he can <ok>.........good luck 2 ur son bro its a great game 2be inviolved in but a ruthless ending for most<ok>

Exactly what I was thinking.

Not sure what exactly qualifies an academy as an academy, but swansea definitely do not have one.

For an example of a REAL academy (properly recognised, etc), have a look at the nice setup here at Cardiff :P

That's correct we don't have an Academy status, we do have what is called a center of excellence, though not the same, we have had the planning permission, and green light to build but nothing has come out of the Liberty on this, think Ebenezer (Jenkins) won't spend the money!............... <cheers>

Mind Cardiff on the other hand do have Academy status, but they haven't got the money to run it!............<laugh>

Yeah it's the Center of Development with a view to going into the Center of Excellence if he plays well enough. Don't know the difference between this set up and an Academy though! Good facilities at Llandarcy. Getting lost every weekend has been fun as I don't know my way around Swansea to get to matches!

the difference is that the cardiff boys get an education aswell, and they get 2play the big boys who also got the academy status.....so you boys will play bristol rovers, while cardiff play the likes of man utd and arsenal init.

Am I right in saying that the Cardiff facilities are poor though, heard that they train outdoors in all weathers at U12'S through to 16'S. Thought they would have good facilities for an Academy. I could be wrong though don't know much about it.

look i work with a father off a kid that has signed pro forms for the swans and he will tell you the difference between the two set ups for sure.why do they need indoor facilties dude.....i really dont get ur point,we play in the open air why not train in it.....im not sure if your correct on this mind.

dude heres my point if you cant grasp it........my cousin thats works with ur kid has told me of a 9 year old lad that was top of the pops and way better than the other 9 year olds at swansea, well he`s from narberth and chelsea have just taken him from swansea for 1700 hundred quid in compo.....this couldnt happen at cardiff`s set up because of the money we invest in the kids and the choice of giving them the contract before any other club can even look at him......this is until the age of sixteen yeah <ok>

No need to get all sweaty about it was just chattin' askin questions and all that! ;) Don't support Cardiff or Swansea so wasn't trying to have a pissing contest.

haha you may know me then....happy days, you will know my cousin paul mellish when you get set up down there,he`s a good lad, a cwmaman boy so what you see is what you get i dont think you`ll get any bull**** off him <ok>

good luck in the journey......i know lee lucas`s oldman loves the life in following his kids progress <ok>

Ok I know him, I'm from Cwmaman.
