Sampdoria prepared for their fixture with the Swans with a friendly match against none other than Manchester United in Dublin on Wednesday with ended in a 2-1 defeat for the Seria A outfit. I’m fairly sure that they could have managed to get to Swansea from Dublin for a 3pm kick off next Saturday, but the reason the game has been arranged to a 5.15pm kick off appears to be that the game will be shown live on S4C.

The Italian outfit finished 10th in Serie A last season. They don’t boast big names in their squad so it’ll be the equivalent of facing a mid table Premiership team in terms of quality. Sampdoria hail from Genoa, situated on the Mediterranean coast of north west Italy, which sounds an ideal place for a pre-season trip next year instead of an eight hour flight to the stifling heat of the USA!

Looking at their history, they peaked in the period 1984-1994, winning Serie A in 1990–91, the Coppa Italia in 1984–85, 1987–88, 1988–89, 1993–94, the Supercoppa Italiana in 1991, lost in the final of the European Cup in 1991–92 and won the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1989–90. Not a bad record for a Club that has been in existence for thirty years less than the Swans.

For Swans fans it’ll be the first chance to see Tammy Abrahams and Roque Mesa at the Liberty and possibly the replacement for Gylfi Siggurdson, should the Icelandic midfielder have finally been transferred to Everton. With this being the final warm up match before the Premier League season, expect the Swans to start with the team to face Southampton the following week.

The Club have quite rightly received criticism for charging £20 for matchday tickets for a pre-season friendly, so for those who haven’t bought tickets already, a beer in front of the telly seems a good shout.

See if you can spot a familiar name or two in this video <whistle>

Should be a good test to see where we are at. Hopefully Gylfi or his replacement will get some minutes.

You beat me to it, Routs is the new Siggy, that is very exciting and shows how far behind we are.

Looking at this early, we are going to get nowhere without a bit of width and we have none. It is a big worry that we cant play with wingers and have to go diamond as we don't have the players. It looks like he has to try and find a system to fit what we have.

Moving the ball around well. Look far more confident than this time last year. With pace on the flanks we could stretch them.

Routs has been more effective in the hole the last 15mins than all of last season.
