I never knew that. It gets a mention in this BBC article... http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/28950665 Maybe because his name is Dem ba ba, we could have got accused of buying a sheep, so we rejected the idea.
Yes I saw that article - I wasn't aware either. But we have a great history of passing on players who turn out alright - Dean Saunders springs to mind.
Last year I believe . Adam Matthews is one that gets mentioned although not setting the world alight still has time on his side , all clubs will have passed on players who at the time were not deemed good enough so we're not alone .Players develop at different times so a decision has to be made ,The Academy only has to bring through 1 decent player to justify it's existence and with Joe Allan & Ben Davies being very recent examples then money well spent .
He has played there for Celtic , and to be honest he wouldn't be the first or last player to be "wrong" footed in playing in that position ,it will probably be to the detriment as an attacking threat but as purely in a defensive role then why not.
Thanks for that. With Celtic (rightly) out of the Champions League, would Matthews be an option for us?
They were well beaten against Legia Warsaw over the two legs but I suppose we would have done the same regarding an appeal . Matthews earlier in the summer was linked to us via the press and a couple of hopeful forum posters but nothing seems to have developed from that . A youngster who has played at a good level and has come up against Barcelona ( although not outstanding was decent enough ) so maybe and with his previous link to the Club who knows we may see him back here .
