Hull fan here, I know a 3-0 defeat to Millwank is embarrassing but surely it's a bit of an overreaction to sack Sven so early on. Even more so considering the amount of managers you lot get through, a bit of stability wouldn't be a bad idea, furthermore you're only 2 points adrift of the play-offs. I am shocked I must say, but you guys see the team every week so maybe it was the right call?
You've got quality players and it's not like you're down at the bottom end of the league. I think given a full season Sven would have got you to the top 6 at least. Dave Jones might not be a bad choice as a replacement though, O'Neill would be a great appointment if he'd want to return.
A bit harsh? Umm....Yes. Whilst it is his job to select, motivate, decide tactics, at the end of the day he is not on the pitch. Sven is a manager, we don't even have a first team coach which an appointment of an experienced one would have been a far better move.
maybe a bit harsh but not at all surprising to be honest, performances all season have been at best hit and miss. i dont think sven was aware of what was needed to get us out of the div, were not playing in italy, were its pass pass and more pass. we need a bit of steel and def an end product to all the possession that we get in games, but so very often there has been no width, no real attacking flair, and im not even gonna start with the corners, crosses, free kicks etc etc.............
Nope. The timing is correct. 33 games to go. Our football is pretty at times but sideways and backwards. Not pace, poor counter-attack. Poor in the final 3rd. Too negative. Occasional poor selection. Just didn't get the lads really going. I hate it when clubs axe managers early. Maybe this is the same, but for me, this just feels right. On Saturday, just before Millwall scored their first, we were attacking for 25 mins towards the Kop. I yawned, I felt tired. We lacked ideas, we lacked passion. We lacked width. This has been coming. Don't even get me onto the 2nd half against Southampton. 3-1 up and we go 4-5-1 at home with 45mins to go, a young 18 year old left footed Striker moved onto wide right wing. He was a duck out of water. Southampton hammered us, literally stuffed us 2nd half. It was an embarrassment. God only knows how we hung on and won 3-2. He showed the team that day he had NO BALLS!!
It's certainly not harsh. He's been here a year and we haven't improved to a standard acceptable, he is clearly tactically inept and can't motivate his players. Whether it's the right decision is another thing, I'll reserve that judgement at least until I hear who our new appointment is.
Just posted this in another thread but I think it applies to this: Firstly, thanks for his efforts at the club. I think that some of the players came here because they were attracted by Sven so, for me, what he has done is given the new manager a squad that is capable of promotion and a very strong nPower Championship squad on paper for them to work with. I think Sven was sacked more because of bad performances than bad results and I do think it was harsh but I hope this isn't going to be the norm from Top where he sacks every manager if we lose one game that we should win. As I say, I think it was more bad performances leading up to that match that then culminated in that defeat rather than a knee-jerk reaction to one loss. At least, I hope it was, otherwise I'm very worried.
Sven's sacking is a disaster. For the first time, I'm now believing automatic promotion is beyond us. Really hope I'm wrong, but all this will do is create instability.
i dont thinks sacking sven is a disaster, he wasnt up to getting us promoted, def with the style of football he wanted the team to play. the timing of his sacking may prove to be the real disaster, but only time will tell on that score.
Who next & how much time will he have ? Back to a ****ing managerial merry-go-round then. Proves the ownwers are serious about the premiership. **** YOU TREES, LEEEEDS, DULL & who the **** are you pair of BRISTOLS, YOU WILL EAT YOUR WUM´s
Think we will live to regret this decision. The owners backed him to the hills in the transfer market and now another manager will cone in and change the side around where the excuse of 'time to gel' will be used. Sven was one of the mist respected men in world football, don't know how you replace that. I totally agree that performances haven't been consistent enough but our league position is decent, I was confident that it would all fall into place at some point. We will achieve nothing this season now, mid table mediocrity here we come
We Southampton fans know better than most that continually changing the manager is a recipe for disaster - this led us to drop down the leagues under the useless Rupert Lowe. I think you must give a manager more than 13 qames for God,s sake!
We know changing the gaffer is silly, the same thing happened to us. None of ta fans want a continually changing regime. I don't know who we can get in now, stupid decision
