This is the Rubbish that Claridge is putting about at the minute according to a sunday paper; Leicester City hero Steve Claridge reckons his old club are mad for letting Sven Goran Eriksson loose with an open cheque book. The ex-Foxes hitman, like many observers, has been stunned to see former England boss Eriksson blowing huge sums of cash at City throughout the summer.
So far, the Leicester chief has signed SEVEN players in the close season – for a total outlay of around £10million – and the incoming transfer *activity appears far from finished.
The Swede has so far signed Lee Peltier from Huddersfield, Neil Danns from Crystal Palace on a free, Kasper Schmeichel for £1m from Leeds, Sean St Ledger from Preston for £1.2m, David Nugent from Portsmouth on a free, Paul Konchesky from Liverpool for £1.5m and Matt Mills from Reading for £5.5m.
That’s almost £10m and although Eriksson has dropped his interest in ex-Manchester United *midfielder Owen Hargreaves, Bristol City’s £5m-rated *forward Nick Maynard remains on his radar.
But while the major spending spree means City are now red-hot 5/2 favourites to clinch automatic promotion back into the big-time, Claridge fears it could all go horribly wrong.

For the striker-turned pundit, who scored 17 goals in 68 games when Leicester were in the top flight in the mid-90s, *simply does not rate the former Manchester City and Notts County boss Eriksson at *Championship level.
Claridge, 45, who also played for Millwall and Birmingham, scoffed: “I wouldn’t take those odds for love nor money. I am not convinced by Sven. He seems like a decent enough fella but he just doesn’t convince me as a manager that he can get this side out of the *division
“I think the sums of money the club is spending – and we’ve also got to throw wages into the equation here – are absolutely staggering.
“They spent absolute fortunes last year too and were supposed to go up.
“And it was a good time for them to get out of it last year. It’s not so good this time.
“It’s going to be a really close league and very, very tough to go up.
“Watching Sven’s teams, watching the players – and I have seen the way he sets teams up and implements players – doesn’t convince me.
“I saw them play at Cardiff last season and immediately knew then they wouldn’t be going up.
“The players were all over the place, out of position and unsure of what they were meant to be doing.”
Eriksson’s most recent big-money buy was Reading centre-half Mills early last week.
Despite interest from Premier League clubs Stoke and Wolves, Leicester still managed to clinch a £5.5m deal.
But that, according to Claridge, proves the Midlands outfit are paying over-the-top prices to their Championship rivals.
Claridge added: “£5.5m for Matt Mills? He’s a good player and a good centre-half – but I don’t think he’s ever played in the Premier League.
“He went to Reading from Doncaster for £1.5m. So, if you were looking at around £2.5m to a maximum of £3m, then fair enough.”

Steve is just concerned for us because he loves our club and doesn't want to see us fail! I too was at the Cardiff game and we did look a bit all over the place but due to injuries had to reshuffle. Look it's easier to slate a club and manager when they have invested so highly but that's the pressure Sven has to cope with! And I for one will support sven totally whatever the outcome!

Wasn't Cardiff our first loss after a 5 game win streak?

He should have come to Burnley at home.

i dont think our owners are in business of gambling. they are in the business of suceeding.
sven has managed at the top level many are unconvinced by him but his past record doesnt lie
investing in a business is what you do if you want it to grow and move foward football is no different.
as far as matt mills transfer fee 1.5m to 2m (it was undisclosed) two years ago 5.5m now charlie adams .5m two years ago 7m now

Although I think maybe we did pay to much for Mills, look at the other signings though, free, free, 1.0 & 1.5 million, it´s hardly splashing out is it. It´s maybe the same as Chelsea spending 25 million on 6 players, no one would blat an eyelid.

The thing is it´s because people don´t associate LCFC with 'big' spending & having alot of money. The owners are going on the spending spree not SGE or LCFC. The owners want LCFC to succeed & make the prem that´s why they are willing to spend (their money) & that´s why they appointed a high profile manager like SGE so he could attract the players.

Last season, with all thing concidered, was´nt bad (under SGE) try taking over a team without a DEF & then trying to patch it up with mostly loan players. SGE steadied the ship & had ago at making the P.O´s. It did´nt work out, BUT if you ask me, that has been a blessing.

Let LCFC & it´s fans worry about LCFC, I think if we did a poll, asking the LCFC fans only 'KEEP SGE or SACK SGE' I would think alot of people would vote 'KEEP'

Mills is over priced but he is still a quality player. If you offer him to all 24 teams in this league everyone of them would of taken him

Claridge is really starting to piss me off. It just goes to show that, despite his connections to the club and his media background, he is as clueless about our club as all the WUMS are. His 'legend' status is starting to slide....

Sorry to hear your comments about Sven Steve! you had a good couple of years here and was worshipped by the fans.
You had a go at being a manager, and to be honest you did not have a clue and had to settle for being a pundit
I for one think sven is one of the best, and being a gambling man! i have lumped on us to be champs this year.
cant afford to bet as much as you! but do expect to win instead of loseing like some i dont people i dont want to mention.

Maybe supper steve has simply been bitten by the bbc bug, doesnt seem to matter what leicester do, the t***s from the bbc never seem to have a good word to say about us!
Still remember when we got sven as the manager, and they managed to make a complete mockerey out of the issue!
And the fact we had the best record i. The division, climbing the table from bottom to within a couple of points of the play offs, yet still we would get a whopping 1.5 minute section of the late night program!
