http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/wo...-So-did-wrong-former-Three-Lions-manager.html Interesting words from Sven, on why Gerrard-Lampard did not work. He says he tried to get Stevie me to hold a decade ago to solve the problem of fitting him, Lampard and Paul Scholes into the team. âI told him many times, âYou sit in midfieldâ. He said: âItâs too early Sven, too early.â But I knew it would be perfect for him because he can tackle, he can defend, he can pass the ball, he can read things. âIn a perfect world, that is where he would have played in my England team. But he was in 20s, he had too much energy at that time. I discussed it with him but could tell he really didnât like the idea. It was a shame, maybe I should have pushed him harder. But he was resistant so it wouldnât have worked. âNow, he is showing he can do it. In that position, he has more of the ball than any other player, so he can dictate a game.â
Interesting reading but for me it makes Sven look more of a bell than I already considered he was. If Gerrard didn't follow instructions surely not selecting him was an option? Why would you pick a bloke in your side over 40 times and even make him captain if he ignored your instructions? Seems a bit odd he's coming out with this now. Is Sven on the publicity wagon? I used to be a regular at England in days gone by but I always swore that if a foreign manager took over my country that was it for me and Eriksson ended it all when he was appointed. I was filled with dread when the talk of his getting the job at our place was doing the rounds. Thankfully, common sense prevailed.
Should have held with Hargreaves behind Scholes/Lamps in a 442. Or played the Chelsea 433 system. Hargreaves holding behind two of Lamps, Scholes, Gerrard
Good point also who's going to see some chopped liver at the Waitrose meat counter and think i'll give Nancy a ring this weekend?
