Great news. Im a big fan of Suso. He was massive for Almeria last year and had an impact against some of the best teams in the world. Suso can play as an attacker or as a central midfielder. If this lad fulfills his potential then we have a highly talented, technical, determined and intelligent player on our hands. His vision and range of passing could be invaluable to us.
He was definitely more central when he played for us, even at younger levels, but was played out wide to accommodate other players. I'm a big fan of Suso and think he has all the ability to be a great part of our team. His passing and vision is sublime at times, the closest to Alonso I've seen at LFC from our current crop, although he plays more advanced than Xabi did. Hopefully the loan did him well and he'll come back with a bit more maturity in his play.
From what I'v seen the loan mainly help Suso get over his fear of the physical stuff (including the risk of getting tackle whilst attacking) and improve defensively. These are exactly what Suso needed.
I see him on the edge of the 18 yard box, just off centre, to the right, the sort of area Steve G used so well to set up so many of Nando's goals. I think he could be a good supplier to Sturridge. He was Mr. Assist at Almeria, so more of the same. My only concern is he only got 3 himself, in the Spanish league, where you have all the time and space you could ever need, he could have been a bit more greedy and got double what he did. It will be a lot harder to score in the prem, so if he struggles in that department, we could probably do better than him. I need a "Don't know" on the poll, as I'd love him to succeed, but I have my doubts.
Hope he live up to the potential that we all heard about a couple of years ago. Last season where he got a full year of playing can only benefit him and us in the long term and hopefully he can compete with Coutinho in that attacking midfield position. No doubt he has technical ability, when he's on the ball you can tell hes very comfortable and is able to beat a man with a quick feet and ball movement rather than skill or sheer pace.
Sorry but what season for Suso has been a 'breakthrough season'?? ****ing bs hype article I'm guessing from the LFC website. Not writing the guy off but nothing about him has been breakthrough yet.
I don't feel 100% confident he will make it so I selected no. I wanted to vote "possibly but needs to work hard".
Standout player for Almeria and kept them up. at 19 that is a big deal! Would prefer Suso to Allen, Lallana, Lucas, Tex although Tex is starting to come good too.
I'm glad he's back - Hopefully proving why sometimes the loan system works well (we'll wait and see on that) My concern is he is very similar to Coutinho - but not as good, so with our new siginings will he just become a bench warmer and play the odd cup game, and perhaps the last 20 minutes of the occasionally PL game. Hopefully, he's come back all guns blazing and can claim a spot in the first 11, I can't see it myself.
i hope he is used for all the cup games, ie league and fa, and if he impresses in that give him the odd game in the league, or at least a sub. he needs game time, so use the cups.
I've admired the lad ever since he broke into our first team.. saw him when I could when he went on loan too, was impressed with his overall play, going forward, tracking back, scoring and setting up goals.. Glad he's staying, hopefully he'll get a chance to prove himself...
There have been so many Susos before Suso- that I've become numb to the Susos of the world. Lindfield, Mellor, Pacheco, Nemeth... many more "Top Quality stars in the youth who would become world class... but didn't" ... How often is the super-hyped youth player successful. It seems the youth that sneak in under the radar do best. Gerrard, Carragher, Owen, Flanagan, Sterling (OK... many of them weren't under the radar... but they weren't the most hyped of our youth either). They were all respected in the youth program- but not the star of the youth program. The star of the youth program is normally the one to not succeed.
There's a lot of luck involved. Flanno is now on the edge of the starting XI only because no one would take him on loan and then we had injuries.
Perhaps so... but I also think it's down to the fact that people mature at different ages. The kids who shine at 16, 17, 18, 19 frequently are just maturing physically faster than others in their age group and appear to be better. Whereas, ones who mature later, frequently become the better players over time because they have to work harder to try and keep up with the early-blossoming teammates, and as a result, often end up being the better players once their physical maturity catches up.
