Surprisingly, he hasn't been mentioned for a while?

Our infamous Captain hasn't been mentioned on our board for a while.
The Tweeting seems to have been surpressed somewhat, and he seems to go fairly inocuously about his business on the pitch.
( Also off it, where he goes the extra mile to help the less unfortunate than ourselves. )
Although he hasn't been pulling up any trees, he seems very industrious, gets his head down, and genuinley does his best.
I think he had his best game for Rangers on Saturday.

Personally, I think he did come to us under duress, when he realised that a bigger club wouldn't go for him, and the realisation that Newcastle no longer wanted him, would of left him feeling very forlorn and sorrowful, and unloved.
That would hurt anybodys ego, no matter who you are.

I know he has his doubters and haters on here, but I feel the enigma that is Joey Barton, deserves a more balanced assessment as to how far as he stands with us now that he has played nine games for us.
I just thought i'd throw this one ' Out there ' to gauge the general feelings of our heroes in hoops.
Other than the odd initial 'Tweet', and the unfounded rumours of dressing room unsettlement, he dosen't appear to be the 'Beowolf' we all expected.

Has Sir Neil and TF put him on the righteous path?
Whereby he ( Joseph ) has embraced the Rangers Revolution, and now accepts responsibility and the opportunity as Captain , has he acquired the necessary maturity and responsibility to guide us to being an established Premiership team?

Can indeed, a leopard ever change its spots.

    I sincerely hope so.

Good post! <ok> Very well put and it echo many of my own thoughts on the matter.

    <applause>

Impressive description, and something we all ought to have in mind before we demand him being a world beater from day one.

The last 1 1/2 games have been very good from him, his set piece delivery is very accurate which is perfect for HH and Jay.

I agree with some of this article. One thing though...how do you know the rumours of dressing room unrest are unfounded?

I think he is an average player and we have had to accommodate him which we have done. Agree with 999 on some points however he is still being judged on his past and his ego runs on it ...

Saying that you do get the feeling that he is now stepping up to the plate but then you read maybe rubbish about PSG . He is putting in good shifts and I will of course stand corrected if this continues .

I agree that the Newcastle thing has left him scared like a romantic split we all know how off the wall we can all go when that happens in life

He is also playing better in the centre

I think he is growing into QPR and therefore on me ... It's the Smiths ... Such things can change your outlook as the pistols did for me

Good post SB, I agree with nearly everything that you say it obviously has been overlooked that he needs to bed in and re-adjust to a different style of management and team. As said already he can really deliver a free kick or corner as good if not better than anyone I have seen play for us.

An interesting point I would like to share was when I was watching the Chelsea game in Amsterdam a few weeks ago a Man U fan joined me at the bar, remember City had just thrashed them 6-1, and no he was not drowning his sorrows just a genuine football lover. Anyway I was really surprised when he started going on about how great JB was and wished Man u had of bought him, when I asked why, he said that he had taken an interest in him as a player and thought he was superb player and had a rare ability to change a game with just one killer pass something very few can do! These were his words although I did question wheather he was for real and he was deadly serious and thought JB was a class act "footballer".

I must admit not being a JB fan until he joined our club and therefore had never really watched him play and only picked up on the negative stuff, anyway this guy had nothing to gain from telling me his opinion and as a neutral plus being a Man U fan you could forgive him if he slagged him off. I have already had been watching him but since this conversation I have taken far more notice of JB's play and I believe he is getting better espcially as Derry has been taken out of the 3 defensive midfielder system. However I feel Derry is still an integral part of our squad but may have to play a different role either as back up for JB or coming on for the last 15 mins to help us hold onto a lead.

I suppose time will tell but it is nice to get a pleasantly surprising feedback from neutral fans.

Great post and replies. I think the jury is still out on Joey for me. Dont think he should have been made captain from the offset, possibly next year once he had adjusted to us and in fact proven himself on the pitch for us. I think there is no doubt that he is a very good footballer and with the limited players we have for selection at the moment he is worth his place in the team. If we add a couple of more midfielders in Jan then i think his place may not be as secure as IMO Faurlin offers more. Deffo agree that he offers more in the middle than out wide as we need players with a little more pace out there. Think that Derry unfortunately will be the one to miss out.

Surely you mean The Clash TBGWTDT?

Wor Joey appears to have (albeit temporarily) curbed his off field antics and seems to be happy living in London. Maybe he's found himself a bigger pond and is less high profile? Recent on the pitch performances have justified Warnock's decision to sign him and playing in the centre (surely we all knew this?) means he is provider to HH and Bothroyd which look a good combination (until DJ returns).

Report card so far 7/10 - Improving.

No, a leopard can't lose its spots. It can lie low in the shadows for a while, so you think it's lost them. But when it comes back out into the open, there they are...

Barton's doing well at the moment. NW's getting the best from him. There will be more problems. They follow Joey around. How big, how many, who knows?

When Joey wears the hoops he should have the support of all of us, i dont care about his off field activities, its what he does in the hoops is all that bothers me and his last performance was tremendous and long may it continue.

I think he's been excellent in the past couple games going back to Chelsea or Blackburn. I was baffled when he was given captaincy as Im sure to keep Adel happy Neil could've just pulled Joey to one side and told him that he was skip in all but name much like what we did last year with Derry.

Taarabts the only person in the squad really petulant enough to care about that so what was the point? Surely AT would've of been better off feeling as if he was being given advice from a top player rather than being bossed around which we all know he so hates. Had AT remained skip I feel he would've come out of his shell a little more and given it a go whereas he seems scared to do so at the minute...

...oh bollocks Ive just taken a good thread and started talking about Taarabt.

I did wonder whether he was more trouble than he was worth and for a while there it looked to be the case what with the supposed unrest in the camp and his never ending tweeting which made him sound like a deranged Schzio sqrawling from behind the bars of his cage. Coupled with his under-par performances it didn't look good.

However, since he has been moved inside he has looked far better. And maybe the unrest and consequent Taarabt sulks was just the result of giving said player some home truths. A doubt remains as to whether he'll continue to put in the performances against the lower teams and if he'll revert to type and get back on his waffle machine to make his points rather than doing so on the pitch. After all, his two top games have been against Chelsea and Man City.

I do hope that he continues in this vein of form and unlike Roller, I'd be very content to have him at the Club under such circumstances even if I know he still is a c*nt. Its the nature of fans and their football team. I doubt if Donny fans are bothered about El Hadj Diouf's lack of character after banging them in at Ipswich the weekend.

So onwards and upwards I say.

It's no secret that i'm a big fan, wasn't before he joined but totally hooked since.

He don't have ANY leeway re violence though, first incident and theres no way back for me. But i'll give him a clean slate, he deserves his chance and now that he's in London (civilization) hopefully he'll act more civilized.

His earlier interviews bugged me a bit, but he's improving with each one passing.

Agree about the captaincy, bit strange, unless it was agreed in the contract (unlikely). But i don't think anyone else than Adel in the squad cares, as before Barton Adel was captain only by name.
