Having played a game more Everton on 42 points and Liverpool on 36 points. Table this morning. 1.Man Utd=65 2.Man City=53 3.Chelsea =49 4.Tottenham=48 5.Arsenal=44 6.Everton=42 7.Swansea=37 8.Liverpool=36 Question. Do you think we can catch Arsenal and Tottenham?.
i know everyone looks at it dif, but for me we should concentrate on getting above Swansea first then think about Everton. if we get above Everton and there is enough games to play and the gap is reachable, then i might start to think can we, but for now all i see is 6th place finish at a push, but who knows.
I don't think we will catch either Spurs or Arsenal! But...................... if we are going to have any chance we simply must get 6pts out of the next 2 games. Both at home and winnable, if not we really have no chance.
Which LFC fan wouldn't want to catch Spurs and Arsenal for 4th... However, I think we'll come up just short this year... One game at a time, try and beat WBA and get back into 7th and then take it from there...
This is getting tiresome. We can get 4th spot. It is still mathematically possible and therefore must be our aim. In order to do so we must concentrate upon our own game and not those of Everton, Arsenal or Spurs - they are irrelevant unless we are playing them! So one game at a time and go for 4th.
We will do what we can in a fortnight to close the gap for you We really could use 3 points sooner rather than later so Everton would be the ideal game for us to start on winning ways again. To answer the 2nd question, can't see you catching 4th place sorry to say.
I know what you are saying, however we actually need both elements to actually catch them. Yes the important thing is taking care of our own end but even if we win all our games we still have to look at the other teams and hope they fall away. You seem to get kranky sometimes for no reason!
That wasn't cranky - at least it wasn't meant to be. The "this is getting tiresome" bit referred to the consistency of my response to the 4th spot question which has been raised quite a few times. As for others, I have to disagree with you for the following reasons: As a club we need to continue to aim to achieve the best possible finish to the season that we can achieve. At the moment that is 4th spot (realistically) If we aim to do that then we will be far nearer to fully understanding how our squad can knit together to the best possible effect. It would also show more clearly the gaps that need to be filled in the Summer. Unless we are playing one of these teams we have no influence (other than psychological) on their performance levels. Therefore why let their results interfere with our development? The higher the finish that we actually achieve the more the momentum that we can carry forward into next season's campaign. Finally, fans are paying a lot of money to see their side try and perform at their best and not just go through the motions.
If you take fourth place Spurs as a target it looks like and is a big ask,but the fixture list at least provides a little hope. This is seven of Spurs remaining twelve fixtures- Home to Arsenal,Everton and Man.city Away to Liverpool,Swansea,Chelsea and Stoke. Plenty of scope for change there, but lets just beat the Baggies tonight eh.
Obviously we can only catch the teams above us if they drop more points than we do- so what happens to other teams is relevant. Apart from Swansea and Everton there's nothing we can do about that. Having said that there's nothing to be gained from looking at various permutations of what others might do, apart from the entertainment value. I think 6th is probably the best we can realistically hope for, but I never give up on anything until it's mathematically impossible. We need to see if we can get a run of consistency together, because that's what has let us down so far. We've strengthened our attack with the addition of Sturridge (and maybe Coutinho) so let's just see how we get on over the next 3 or 4 games.
Well, a win tonight would put us 3 points behind them. Then we have them to play at home. Not sure what our goal difference is, but that game can turn it. Also, if Suarez's last minute goal had counted, as it should have, they'd be on 41 points to our 38. I think 5th or 6th will be the best we'll get. I expect the top 4 to remain as they currently are.
everton are fairly average really. their record is average yet they seem to think they are the bees knees. for me it's only a question of best of the rest here. swansea are only playing well at home and are a challenge to anyone THERE... arsenal are not out of anything right now but look so disorganised but the quality of their play is top class. For me arsneal have the better front 3 of the pack for 4th. podolski, giroud, walcott.. their midfield is good but one dimensional.. as in it can only go forward... i'd back them over spurs right now as spurs are one injury away from disaster. Everton are no great shakes and neither are Swansea so really getting 6th is not even to my mind a target. its a sacking offence not to based on last years results and consequences.
Given the league table & your place in it, there's a real irony in that comment. Oh & btw we've only lost 4 of our last 35 league games, if that's 'average' I'll take it thanks.
